Dont mean to hate if it seem's I am. Hope you understand that everyone should be able to voice their opinion's on this matter. Even if they havent attended a Nat's thats no reason to push off a good idea because someone's a noob, like myself.

I don't take your reply that way but consider this. You fix a dish and someone gives constructive criticism to better your item without ever tasting it....pretty crazy, eh? How then could one give constructive criticism to better the NATS with having never attended?
If someone came up with a new place and could save everyone some money overall, then why not think about it?
Exactly, and that's why BG was suggested. Not sure about the saving $$ part because I think it would cast a bit more but to me, the benefits outweigh the cost. It is definately MORE central to the ones that participate but I am beggining to sense what others have said all along; It'll never happen. The fact is no-one likes change but sometimes it just makes good horse sense. Whatever happens with the locale, go next year and I'll see you there. You'll enjoy it.

Instead of pushing to move the nationals....why not come up with some new/better ideas for the committee to implement for the 2006 nationals. Its a ton easier to add new events than to MOVE the entire weekend to some foreign location and have to round up places to hold the existing events. :2cents:

Yeah, I suppose so but the easy way is not always the best way. I guess if we all put as much energy into making it better as we have trying to get it moved, we'd get a lot more accomplished. I'm gonna start gathering giveaway or prize items from local establishments in preparation for next years NATS (i.e. chamois, wax, car wash solution, buckets, air fresheners, oil filters, plugs, etc). I think if there is a local carting track where we could have a driving "competition" without beating up on our trucks, that would be a load of fun. I'll even fund the trophy's for it out of my pocket. Here's another idea....how about a foursome 'best ball" golf outing on a Friday afternoon. Most may not golf but that's why it is a best ball tourney and it would give an opportunity to get to know one another. Teams could be derived from random selection by the "committee" and it doesn't hurt the wallet as bad when you exchange paint on golf carts :).

Common Jason, how much thought goes into finding an old torque converter and seeing who can roll it the furthest (which if I am not in error, was on the event board as one of two parking lot events??? You might as well paint hardboiled eggs with pictures of Syclones and Typhoons and have a annual NATS egg toss contest. Has it ever rained before at the NATS? If so, it would have given plenty of reason to have a inclement weather plan. This years plan was to huddle under the hotel awning and wait for the rain to stop. I agree it takes a good year in advance to gather prizes, work out hotel/track/extra-cirricular arrangements, get welcome packets organized and "TROPHY's" prepared, etc......that's partly why this issue has surfaced now. Lastly, I really do appreciate the work everyone put into this years NATS and I thorougly enjoyed meeting new folks and viewing others trucks but I think to insinuate that if one doesn't have at least a 5 year attendance record, their opinions or input are somewhat sidelined is a grave error. A good amount of participants have responded with favor to move it to BG in 2006 and all of the reasons have accompanied their emails. Lots of attendee's have some excellent ideas regardless of the number of years they have attended. I do agree with Morgan though....if someone has NEVER attended, they should keep their suggestions to themselves. Don't wanna ramble...I've just been involved in car events most of my life and my gut says if someone doesn't shake some things up a bit regarding the NATS, the participation is gonna grow less and less but this was my first attendance, so what do I know. LOL whatever you guys (and gals) decide, I'll be back :).
I can answer the first question for Jason, probably ZERO thought went into the Torque Converter toss/roll, but having been around for a while, it IS one of the things that people have REQUESTED and WANTED to do for the past number of years but just never happened and due to the weather this year, still hasnt.

Im not sure why "trophys" was put in quotes, but we get plaques. Yes, trophys are cooler, but they also cost more money usually, but when mine come in the mail, ill take pics for everyone :D

As far as peoples opinions, yeah if youve never been to nats then you really cant reflect on whats good, bad or otherwise, but if opinions are backed up with some good reason and information, so be it, have at it.

So far, and I believe someone else said this earlier, the only reason presented so far for moving nats (again) is to make it easier for east coast people to attend. To me that reason absolutely blows and if thats the only reason people want it moved, then I wont even go next year. California, Oregon and Washington arent going to be the only ones effected by a move farther east. People like Will in Colorado wont be able to pack up the morning of and roll out in their S4. People from New Mexico might not come either.

All im saying is I feel there are going to be just as many negative results as there are postive ones.

i love golf, but i doubt that it will happen merely becuase golf takes a long ass time to play. Even if you only play 9...a best ball tourny would take at least 5 hours. Thats a lot of time.

I will attempt to bring more useful prizes next time also.

Re: is nats always at the same place?

Correction,
The "TROPHYS" are being custom laser etched with the winners name and truck info.
So thats why they were not present at hte event. Thus why we gave "certificates" to the winners so they actually got something at the event. the trophies will be shipped as they are completed.
Another additional expense for the Nats fund to burden.

The racing class trophy itself is a tear drop solid glass design that was donated by Phill Chivers.

Thanks to Phil for being so supportive over the years of the SyTy nats.
His trophys are greatly appreciated by those who win them.

Props to the people that make Nats work! Have full time jobs and everyday lives that consume most of their time and still use extra time to make sure that a once a year weekend event is ran as best as possible. Come to Nats to have fun. Enjoy the trucks and have a good time w/the people. Don't make it a business trip! KC is the fairest location for the event. What if our west coast crowd changes between now and June? We MIGHT actually get a few if Nats stays in a reasonable location? I'm sure BG is a great place but the bigger picture is about being fair to EVERYONE. :2cents:

BTW..... and where the hell else is a track gonna let Renz announce

Ya know, I don’t generally hang out with girls because they bitch too much, but some of you guys are really starting to rival some of the best bitchers I know.

You are beating the life out of the Nationals. For real. The committee spends all of their free time pouring themselves into calling every possible vendor, gm (who doesn’t give a shit unless you have thousands of trucks AND they are laying off HOW MANY PEOPLE? do you think they want to spend money coming to our event?), and anyone else that might donate something. Sure it was a lot different in 2000, so was the economy, and gas prices, not to mention that was before half the people on here had it out with each other, some people have grown up and had babies that they don’t want to bring, bought houses, the time isn’t right for them. You can have 100,000,000 excuses but if you want to come you will, regardless of where it is.

As far as BG, we are not having a corvette event, it is a syty event. So why are you going to leave the comfort of the trucks, be it 48 or 148 to go hang out with a corvette? We are not having a golfing event we are having a syty event, see where I am going here. However, if you want to go golf I am sure we can find you a course. However, I know I am there to be with the syty's and unless we plan on using them as golf carts its not gonna happen for me.

I want to know at what point in time you were bored enough to want to go hang out in a museum. Even at the dyno, it got a little dull, but there was always the excitement of what numbers that truck they were taking so long to set up was gonna run. If you were bored its because you weren’t participating, so you want more contests and shit that you wont participate in then either?! AND if you weren’t participating THEN WRENCH! Hello, again, it’s a syty event, not a golf outing and not a field trip to a museum.

Moving it isn’t going to help things, and why do you need an excuse like a water park to hang out with a bunch of sytyers? Die hard sytyers will go no matter what, the rest we will miss.....

NOJIMMY....dude, you do this every year....http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19333&page=2&pp=15 , http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19738maybe , http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19770&page=2&pp=15 you should try coming to the event so that your input has context, I haven't seen your truck there since what 2001?

So if most of us enjoyed it so much this year, why dont we let the committee handle it and do what they do best?

Bitch mode off, oh wait, that’s right I don’t have an off button!

OK as far as moving it, I see thats a big no no for all fo you. But what about my other question? Would it be better to move it up a month for colder weather or no? I dont know what the weather is like during the Nats, but I know around this area its still way to god damn hot. :dunno:

I speak about my OWN feelings ONLY, I as a Redheaded Heather am a very outspoken person and don’t hold in my thoughts and feelings so well. I tend to get pissy when provoked, ask Renz, but then that is just indicative of the whole redheaded thing.....

The nationals committee is 10 people in a democratic committee; we are exploring our options and have made no decisions that we are ready to announce yet. But I can assure you we are researching everything to great lengths.

Re: is nats always at the same place?

Moving it fwd in the year means even less trucks will be off jackstands.

Gotta give folks time to finish their winter mods and get tuned for the summer.
too early in spring and you'll have even more folks who arent ready.

Moving it to a holiday weekend means more traffic on the roads, higher rates at the hotel and gas pumps and countless other sacrifices for competing with a national holiday.

It has been the same weekend for the last 3 years so that everyone KNOWS when and where it is going to be and has plenty of time to plan for it.

Personally I want the Nats in my backyard on my birthday so screw all of ya! :rotf:

Would it help any if I asked this question on the SRT-10 board? Just to see what they say about doing a little shoot out with us and the Ford boys? I'll bet you'd get a good amount of guys to go, but you couldnt call this a nats. It would be more of a shoot out like I said. Which brings up the question of what date?

There is already an event of this nature.
http://www.454ss.com/sporttruckshootout/sts05mainpage.htm

Its called the Sport Truck shootout.
And Hey its even in Bowling Green.

Everyone who wants to go to BG NOW is your chance.
Go to Beechbend and race all the other makes and models.
Some fo you can even stand around with your arms crossed and a scowl on your face all weekend then go home and tell them how terrible of a job they did.

Althoguh it doesn't look like they have an action packed weekend planned either.
Only 4 hours of track time and no petting zoo.

This will probably spark some hate, BUT there should be less drinking and more group activities, especially if you want to attract or draw back the 30-55 age group, which is probably the range in which most of these trucks belong. I won't delve any further into that but rather, leave it to you commitee members to digest.
You may not want to delve into it any further, but I will. As far as I'm concerned, you can count 2 less attendees and 1 less SYCLONE next year.

There seems to be confusion why the attendance grows less and why the vendors and other big names dont show up. I may have some idea why. Take a look at this post:

And we all cant forget the Austin Legend's speech. Anyone remember this quote. "I skull F*c^ed that Bi^%h" as two normal guests of the doubletree where walking past our circle to go check in to their 4star hotel. Little did they know they would get welcomed by drunk Texans and alcoholism woofal ball and a pocket bike sitting next to the piano in the hotel lobby. Haha now thats some funny memories.
Yeah, that is pretty funny. Do you wanna know who those "two normal guests" were? Would you like to take a guess?

It was me and my relatively new girlfriend, checking into the Doubletree. I was embarrassed that we had to walk through an unruly crowd of drunks, and that she had to listen to language like that. Her first encounter with "SyTy members" made her quite uncomfortable. Furthermore I was ashamed to admit I was even associated with this group. This "family event" was about as family-friendly as a college frat party. The reason you probably didn't think we were SyTyers is because it seems we WERE the only two "normal guests" in the area. Getting harassed by a couple of incredibly piss-drunk goons is not our idea of a good time. And it surely doesn't have much to do with Syclones or Typhoons.

I have taken my truck to the Nationals since 2002 and this year, parts failure prevented bringing a truck this year, but I still made the drive. My truck would run 11s if I brought it. I saw one (awesome) truck of Dennys running 10.50s. The next fastest pass I witnessed was 12.30 and probably 40-50% of the runs were in the 14 second range. I interpret ALL of this as meaning that very few SyTyers are anywhere as serious as I am about RACING. I thought the "Nationals" term is copied from any other "Nationals" like NHRA Nationals or World Street Nationals, meaning --- the ultimate RACE of the year. Evidently the SyTy Nationals is really just the ultimate PARTY of the year , and the racing is nothing but a mundane detail that matters oh so little to the majority of attendants.

I would see stronger racing interest and stronger competition at my local drag strip. I enjoyed the SOBER people I did talk to and I enjoyed watching the competitions and Denny's truck. But the harassment really started us off on the wrong foot and the lack of serious competition didn't help either. My truck is far from a 10 second ride and if I brought it I would feel a little funny being the "2nd fastest" truck there. In 2004 I ran something like a 12.20 or 12.30 in the test and tune and that was the 2nd fastest pass of the event as well (Hoovers were 1st about 2 seconds faster).

OWNED!!!! NOJIMMY, I have read your posts and I started getting suspicious as to whether or not you attended and now Subiegrl confirms it. That is too laughable. You didn't even attend but you have pages of suggestions on how to run it and how to get more people? Oh, the irony is overwhelming. That notwithstanding, you mentioned a bunch of big names/fast trucks and asked what it will take to get them to show up for the "biggest baddest SyTy event". Well guess what - the SyTy Nationals *IS* the biggest and baddest event and none of these people chose to show up. It's not anyone's job to "BEG" or "pay" them to show up, either they are serious about SyTy or they AREN'T. Plus, a bunch of the names you mentioned I recognized as owners whos trucks have either never gone fast or never RAN in the first place?? Don't you think a FINISHED TRUCK would be a first prerequisite to bringing it to a Nationals race? Let's hope their absence from nationals was only because they were so focused on completing their trucks that have been 4-7 years in the making.

This group harassed me a lot when I joined, I got past that part and everyone warmed up, only for me to see them move onto other newbies to harass them and in the past months I have lurked and observed this behavior as evident as ever. I feel the group in general has become more juvenile and LESS and LESS serious about working hard to go as fast as possible. You wonder why the "Old Guard" members don't post and contribute anymore, I know why. Because there is such an incredibly HIGH "signal to NOISE ratio" on this board that it is almost useless to try and find worthwhile posts anymore. When was the last time someone set significant new times or someone had fresh new ideas or serious motivation to finish a big project? I have seen Phillip Long's truck break amazing new ground and Servando exhibit unbeleivable motivation restoring his truck, and the trucks in the 9s are working hard (although they are not sharing much technical information for others to benefit/learn from). But not much else. (I admit I barely read the board at all).

I haven't posted here in about 1 or 2 years. But I still want to be as involved in SyTy.net as ever and I am still as deeply involved in my own truck as ever. But I find more motivation and more useful information elsewhere with much less hassle and crap and juvenile gay-homo jokes to sift through.

Do you remember when, every time I finished a project, I would make a huge technical writeup sharing truckloads of detailed information on my analysis and results, with hopes it may save fellow SyTyers money, wasted time, effort, and agony? I now have more information to post than ever, but I get the feeling I would be just talking to myself and the crickets chirping.

So anyways, enough of my rant. This year's Nationals pissed me off and left a bitter taste in my mouth so take my rant keeping that in mind. If I was a big name or a vendor I would not want to attend this NATIONAL DRUNK FEST either and I would be embarrased to bring my kids and/or wife.

after reading this thread, i have come to realize that i am in support of the nats commitee to making this a syty gathering. my previous statements about the corvette museum etc..... were just caught up in the moment comments. i believe that the nats should be just syty's. i have never been to a major syty event. but of the small ones at tom dowds house, no one got piss drunk, it was just taking time to get to know your fellow sytyer. i'm 22 and i enjoy the occasional drink, but i don't enjoy making myself look like an ass infront of people. as tooky said, it should be about the trucks, do your own partying on your own time.

If you haven't noticed Tooky, the Admin and Mods HAVE been changed, and I don't see to much of what you mention happening at all.....the name calling and degrading of newbies, has pretty much stopped. Obviously you haven't been to this board to often, because many vendor affairs are handled off the board, along with other issues between certain members. Before you make assumptions about the board, please hang around for a while, I know your experience in the past was not a pleasant one....but things have changed....look at the new board, ect.

As far as people suceeding in going fast....there have been ground breaking improvements. The 4L80e was successfully put in a stock truck and people like Tydriver are putting in totally different setups. There are some really fast trucks here now, Josh. Ed Hess is knocking on nines, along with Hoover, Badnewz, Gerber will soon be going really fast with a new truck and his old truck!, Philip Long as you mentioned, and Mark with Les Youngs old Clone just to name a few. There are many trucks that are in the making too (warmpancakes, marty, ect). Many of the 9 sec trucks don't share too much info, simply because it wouldn't be beneficial and is very complex for the average syty owner, and many of them work long hours to afford their fast rides.

Owning a Syclone and Typhoon is not just about the racing aspect either. People have a passion for these trucks because they are unique, rare, quick, and cool.

Excuse me Josh but for one I take offense to your remarks. I'm 45 years old and had maybe two beers the whole weekend. I believe my behavior, as well as most the group there was "normal". Don't group me in with a couple of people who made an ass of themselves by drinking too much. If your ashamed of "Syty members" then do us a favor an stay home next year buy yourself a Jag. Maybe their Nats are more to your liking. You know tea and scones. As far as racing goes. Lighten up dude. For some peole this was their vacation. Not everyone is into racing and making their truck as fast as possible. That's your thing and that's cool. Some people don't have the funds to go really fast others just want a collectible rare truck. I have two trucks. Don't really care to make either one real fast. I personally do very little racing instead rather drive and show it. Your remarks are hurtful and do nothing to help promote or improve the Nats. I think you owe a few people an apology.
