is nats always at the same place?

excuse the n00b question as i've been around the community for less then a year, but is the nats' held at the same location year after year?

i mean, wouldn't it seem logical to move it... like drasticly year to year?
instead of sticking some people with a super long trip every year, why not make it easier for everyone to go atleast when ever it is closer to them?


like... a east coast one, a west coast one, and one in the middle.

otherwise, you'll have people who will never make it to one, due to the long ass drive...


with that said... if i get a decent job, and some new front fenders, i'll be there in 06.

It's been in KC most of the time. It was in Great Bend, KS one year and in Chicago another year.

KC has the best parking lot/hotel accommodations, is fairly close to the track (which SyTy'ers get all to themselves for the whole day), AWD dyno nearby, stuff to do for family members, restaurants, etc.. and the location is relatively centralized.

If the Nats are on the East Coast one year, and the West Coast another, then only those close by will attend.

If it's too far of a drive, you can always fly in.

1000 miles isn't too bad....If you're further than that, you could take someone along to help you drive....just try not to stop unless it's absolutely necessary and you'll get there before you know it....

I agree, for my first year i didnt mind the 750 mile 12hour drive. Hell i drove my 120k Ty there raced it hard and drove it back home. I think changing the location every year would just be asking for less people to attend, it's just one of those things in life you have to deal with. It would be like changing the date every year also. Kansas City is very easy to commute and having decent weather that time of the year and the track is VERY nice to have all to ourselves, not to mention the secluded parking lot and PIMP hotel that no one will complain if you play woofal ball and ride pocket bikes in the lobby.

And we all cant forget the Austin Legend's speech. Anyone remember this quote. "I skull F*c^ed that Bi^%h" as two normal guests of the doubletree where walking past our circle to go check in to their 4star hotel. Little did they know they would get welcomed by drunk Texans and alcoholism woofal ball and a pocket bike sitting next to the piano in the hotel lobby. Haha now thats some funny memories.

The #1 reason why it was picked to be in KC:


Its in the Central US. Meaning, its pretty much a fair drive for most everyone because most of the truck population is heavily on the far west coast and far east coast.

If you have it on the west coast, us east coast wont show up. Vice versa if it was on the east coast. At least in KC, you get a few of everyone from everywhere. 1000 miles is the golden number for people who drive there trucks. Most arent going to drive much more than that, just plain fact. The trucks are still a major part of the event....which is one of the top reasons why people show up other than the fact that most of us have become very good friends over the years. If theres no trucks, then attendance wont be there either.



With that said, I personally challenge ANYONE who wants to step up to the plate and coordinate Nats and thinks they can move it. Everyone who has done it, knows what Im talking about. Its not an easy one person job like it was back in 98-99.



If it was that easy to move it, i'll say it like ive said in the past when this topic comes up.... everyone come to FL, we have the most trucks in any state of the US (150+), we have Disney/Epcot/Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios for all the vacationers, the beach is a roughly a 2 hour drive from the dead center of FL for either coast, its easy to find good streetracing for those who do it, and theres a selection of tracks to choose from in east, west, north and south FL. Sounds like a great place.....but it'll never happen.

Florida NATS one year sounds good to me (and it would even be about 300 more miles than KC but what a great opportunity to meet other SyTy owners). I've already voiced my opinion on all this and I think moving it annually is a GREAT idea. Not just for the SyTy owners but more so for the ones planning it. It prevents the same people wearing themselves out year after year planning. I'll help out (or take lead if necessary) if NATS come to Bowling Green, KY. Corvette factory and museum is right there, Beech Bend Raceway is killer, there is a Go-Cart speedway right across the interstate for a Friday night best driver showdown, the caverns are 25 minutes north.........

I drove 1200 miles one-way to nats this year, really it wasnt that bad! I just feel for guys like Mike and Morgan who traveled nearly twice that!

I didnt really care for KC as far as the layout and driving around the city limits, was pretty confusing for a small town guy like myself. But the hotel/parking lot/track access made up for that ten fold...It really was PIMP! :tup:

I'll be anywhere. The location will determine if I have a truck with me or not. About the only place I won't drive because of distance will be SoCal - and even that I might consider.

i am pretty sure the east coast and west coast guys have their own meets from time to time if you want to partake in those events why dont you just drive down there. Whenever i get my truck running i plan on crashing a few naste events.

Yep - there are always regional events to attend. For the most part every area has them every year along with a few local gatherings which can be a good time also - just without the late night drinking.

2 from New Mexico was as far west that showed.

Its beating a dead horse.

East and West have their own gatherings, although I wouldn't call them "National" b/c thats all that show up, east or west coasters.

The Annual SyTy Nationals was established for EVERYONE to attend and give everyone the same advantage/disadvantage in travelling / racing / drinking / whatever.
Not very often will you see a SyTy with NJ plates parked next to New Mexico plates, much less see them race side by side on the same track.

Other side of the coin is purely $$$.
KCIR has not raised their rates on us in 8 YEARS!
No other track will let us have it exclusively for anything close to what KCIR costs.
I wouldn't even consider going back to the track sharing nightmare of GLD in ChiTown.

About the only other place I'd go would be Great Bend. Not only did we have the track to ourselves - we also had the town / Pizza Hut / Wal Mart / KFC / Crappy Chinese Buffet / hotel.

I wish the national would sort of move around maybe not to the costs but around the central part of the US. However I realize that with the size of the our group, attendance, and the logistics of planning its really not feasible in the long to support a moving Nats.

Wasn`t there an attempt to move the Nationals to Las Vegas one year?

I would love to see a serious attempt to assemble the biggest, baddest, and fastest
SyTy`s at one race site, along with most/all of the sponsors, vendors and supplies. I think
attendance would soar, and no one would mind the location to witness the results.
Unfortunately without big purses, endorsement/advertisment, and pre-arranged
commitment guarantees (from racers) it will never happen. The power tour,
pump gas drags, street nationals, car craft nationals, truckfests, and numerous
other sponsored attractions (along with having only two days total, 1 day of racing, and
to-from traveling time for racing shops, which cut into their business schedule)
hinders this from happening.

I congratulate the present members who organize the Nats (presenting a well organized
event, at a very good hotel, parking, and race site; with well thought out
security, participant activities, without a lot of donations, high costs, or member
fees). To my knowledge, no one has been injured, and vehicles havent been
damaged by theft/vandalism. And rain hasnt damped/canceled the Nats. So
again, the committe has done a lot. But I really, really loved the 2000 Nats
when GM, the Canadians, McCoy, Rockford Racecraft, Lee Howie, the Hoovers,
the green odd-fire Ty from Texas, and Both coasts + Florida all participated
over labor day (making it a 3-day show-n-shine, street race, track event, and
parking lot party). Alas, those day are gone forever.
