Nats location for 2013

Is there gonna be a Nats event in 2012 or 2013?

What options are on the table?

I would like to recommend Pigeon Forge, TN. Most of the big car events happen there and they are well prepared to cater to them. The fall Rod Run alone (Sept 15-19) will see 3500-5000 vehicles present so the locale is well equipped to handle 40-50 trucks. I will be there for the Fall Rod Run and would be happy to dig into specifics.

Deal's Gap ( http://www.dealsgap.com/ ) is about an hour's drive through the mountains and boasts 318 curves in 11 miles with professional photographers positioned ( http://129slayer.com/129Slayer/129_Slayer_The_Dragon_Photo_Specialist_on_US_129.html ) to snap pics year round, which are posted on the internet for viewing/purchase.

Numerous family attractions exist from putt-putt golf, go-carts, and world class aqaurium all the way up to helicopter rides, DollyWood and a water park.

The one thing I am unsure of is the proximity of a racetrack. There are plenty around but none in Pigeon Forge itself to my knowledge.

Just throwing it out there for those that have the power to call the next site. Even willing to be a part of the work task force.

Nats is bi-annual so the next nats is 2013.

Homecoming by definition is in Michigan I believe.

I've never been to TN so I vote there.

Way to get started on the planning T Bone :) Why not have it at your place - your garage is big enough :)

Not a bad idea.....Hershey, PA would be a potential recommendation OR Charlotte, NC. NC is for sure a race saavy state and semi-centrally located between north and south but someone from those area's would have to produce the pro's of bringing the Nats there.

I'll continue to vote for a Chicago area location, because it drew the biggest crowds/# trucks....not that I went to those, but still. Why not go where you can have the most trucks?

I thought Homecoming is already planned in that general neck of the woods (Michigan) each year?

Re: Nats location for 2012

I think it would be good to have a calendar/events being planned thread/page etc. Not only for the next nats but the regional events. One of the cool things with nats ever other year is it has fostered more regional events for people to plan and attend.

I personally think that every attendee should have 1 vote at the regional events next year for the next nats location. If you attend multiple regional events you get multiple votes, if your region doesn't have an event well better plan one or it shows a lack of local interest.

Everybody is going want nats close to home and come up with reasons why that is the best location. For me regional activity shows where active members are which is a part of making a successful nats.

Nats in the middle of Montana would probably not bring many people for example, nor do we see regional events in Montana either.

exactally  Homecoming was never intended to compete with nats, its supposed to be a smaller regional event like shindig and the NE thing (cant remember the name), were working on some changes after a few of the issues from last time, And just to point out Im pretty sure this years nats had the best scenery of any event so far

Re: Nats location for 2012

A bunch of us have been discussing such things. And looking at it as an owner/enthusiast and a vendor.

Homecoming has been a great event that consistently draws a good number of trucks and attendees. The thought of it "competing" with nats came from the number of people going. The things I think are important to take away from it is that its in the same location, in the same month and draws good attendance.

I think to really make Nationals strive, Iit needs to have more consistency. I know the intention was to have it be convenient to owners in different parts of the US each year, but thats what regional events are for. And in the end I think we will find that most of the people that attend are the same people that would make the effort no matter where it was. Every other major car club, that has great numbers, has their nationals at the same location, the same date/week every year. I think we need to look back at the events that drew the most people and corresponding dates and make it a standing location and date. That way people can plan for it each year. My votes are for Chicago and Bowling Green, as those had the best numbers.

Re: Nats location for 2012

Homecoming is a great time. I only made the last event, but it was a hoot for sure.

Jeff and I did the DAY AT THE STRIP event in I'll, and that was real fun as well. Jeff spoke with Mark Bowler (owner of Bowler Transmissions) about possibly having our event at their location. He was very open to that. There was the autocross, speed-stop challenge, and the 1/4-mile (though not at a dragstrip). There was a car show as well as food/drink/small rides for kids.

Not trying to drag HC away from Detroit - just offering a very simple (for the hc committee) alternative that can be had.

2012 Shindig planning is already underway. We (adam and I) wanted to let the Nats dust settle before discussing it publicly, so look for some topics coming soon.

Re: Nats location for 2012

I was going to look into Indy as a location for the next Nats just to see the expense. Plenty of hotels around here that are used to racers and hot rodders. Not only is there the drag strip, but they also do autocrossing, road course, and oval track races there as well. Last time I looked, rental was outrageous. But it's under completely new management, and from what I've heard, prices have come down. Was also going to look into something at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a museum tour, or something similar to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. I also have some connections that could possibly get us the hookup on using one of the race teams shops as a cookout or show and shine like we do at the truck shop at Homecoming. eg. John Force Racing, Kenny Bernstein, Schumacher, etc.

I talked to Mark again this weekend on some other items. He is VERY much game for it and I plan to make it a syty regional event for next year. If another group wanted to move their event to this I would be ALL for it. If it is combined or stands as an event on its own next year, it will be worth it.

Not to take away from homecoming, as I will be there also.

We do. It used to be called "Hooters Fall Meet"...this year it'll be "AutoAddictions 2011". ;) I'm predicting 30 trucks this year. Date poll coming soon.
