OMG what's your problem.. what difference is it what goal we put there.. If i put 700billion are people going to stop donating because we'll never hit it? what if i put $200.. what happens.. we hit 200 and that's it.. we want people to donate what they can when they can if they want to. I think it's silly to have a goal so i put something crazy there.
All of the money does go back into the site in some way.. (well except the money from last year that I used to buy a Lambo, <<that's a joke BTW). Hosting/upgrades/license's etc.

Update for those have donated or thinking about it. The 1 mil mark has been changed to $5000. A good point was brought up that if we can actually see the % rise with the donations, it would show that the donations being made is making a visible difference.

Does the $5000 mean anything? No, it was the first number that I threw out. But now its an obtainable goal and you can see now that instead of 0%, we are at 2%.

But please, dont read to deep... it wasnt changed to appease vettandtyphoon. What I wrote above still holds true. :fist:



BTW, Keith already bought the Lambo on the previous forum version. He's hoping with this version and its new features to purchase a ZR1.

damn.. i can't buy a ZR1 with $5k...

Hey ,I donated. $10.00 shouldn't break anybodys banks, especially owning one of these trucks anyways. Do I get my name in green now? C'mon open up the pockets a bit, this site is worth a few bucks just for the entertainment alone. Not to mention actually helping owners with their vehicles.

That wasnt a vent. That was a stab at this board and the people who keep it active. For me as an admin, seeing "...can goto shit for all I care" and "i'll start my own...." I take that directed towards me and the other admin/mods.

Matt, this isnt addressed directly to you, but to answer the question overall.....

There is no "goal" to reach. The donation forum hack needed to have a number to input, so Keith just threw one in. Does anyone honestly think it takes 1 mil to run this place? Come on....use some logical thought before making a ridiculous post and going crazy that the forum owner is trying to make money for his personal benefit. Maybe if the original post was worded like this as posted by another member:

The only thing I can see wrong with 1 million is that it will take a LARGE amount of donations before anyone will see the "%" go up. It would probably motivate people more if they had a real number that the forum could hit and they could see the percent their donation raised it. Would it be possible to show tenth's of a percent? If you could show that, even a $20 donation on a $10,000 goal would make a visible change. Just a thought.

It wouldnt have been a problem. Shortly after the above SENSIBLE post was made the "goal" got changed without any arguments or drama.

But nope, Herman wanted to be a d!ck about it and make assumptions before knowing the facts or offering a reasonable suggestion. He's been ungrateful and has never listened to advice given to him since 2002 anyhow. His post just shows his support and true thoughts towards everyone here. :2cents:

FYI, Keith has mentioned hes looking into an upgrade that will remove the "goal" number and just display the donations.

If I had to figure my truck out on my own and take it to someone to do for me I would have paid A BOAT LOAD of MONEY!!!! And it still probably wouldn't be done right. I'll bet you are the guy that gets invited to a barbecue and doesn't offer to bring anything. You probably eat over at your friends/families houses so you don't have to buy your own food. I'll bet when you do go shopping you only buy things if you have coupons. When a bum pulls a good hot dog out of the trash you swipe it out of his hands and tell him its yours. C'mon guys! With almost 7000 members that's less than $145 a piece to reach a million$$$!!! This site is priceless. Can't say how much money I WOULDN'T have without this site and all its generous members. Found tons of cheap parts, my killer rims, and lots of how to info.
Administrators are great, maintaining the site when they could be doing whatever, including working on their own trucks or finding a PAYING gig.

Personally, thought it was pretty damn funny asking for a million. :lol: I think you should have kept it.
I get it, syty needs donations, did I think the admins were serious about getting a million? Not really. I'm pretty sure the admins know their audience. I agree and from personal experience licensing/support/or anything IT related....AIN'T CHEAP!!! It's actually a freaking joke how expensive it can get.

IMO it all depends on where he takes it from here.......

I made the 2nd donation and wondered the same thought when I saw the goal but figured it was more comical than anything else. All of us won't see eye to eye all the time, but there certainly was a better way of venting (if that was even deemed necessary). Managing a site like this is no doubt challenging and if the Admins/Mods were granted a cash bonus at the years end with any profits (which probably never exist), who cares!!! As long as the Admin/Mods are not abusing their position(s), I think they are worthy of whatever recognition we can contribute, verbal OR monetary.

It looked pretty clear that vettandtyphoon is claiming that it should only be costing syty.net admin $300 a year for this forum. Servers,harware,software,time spent by a human to do that stuff, should be free. I say let him do it and check the reality and see if it's still there 2 years from now. And no, he shouldn't be coming here asking them how to do it. Do you see where they are actually doing their OWN code to make the donation deal work? He should be able to do ALL of that for $300 a year total.

Maybe the operating costs should be posted on the forum so people know how much it costs to keep this going. It might help people decide how much to donate. Does it cost $5000 a year ? $500 a year? Just a thought.
