Sorry it took so long to get back here with more pictures. I took some trying to show more detail. Will post them below.
As for other parts, will probably be doing the front bumper in next 2 weeks, then the front fenders a few weeks after that.
For members "worried" about the bed ripping off the truck. I'm sure its possible, but not likely. For one, the tonneau cover on the truck right now would rip off long before the bed did. And the tonneau is showing normal air flow similar to stock with negative pressure right behind the cab and positive pressure at the rear of the truck. So there is not a huge volume of air appearing under the bed and turning the back into a parachute. But to let you sleep easier at night, we will be building underbody panels to smooth out the airflow under the entire truck, and to make sure I don't get too much turbulence under the bed. Looking to increase efficiency in mileage and minimize drag.
I learned long ago to not try and come up with reasons why you shouldn't or couldn't do something, come up with solutions and answers and work to get it done.

I took the shots trying to show the areas that were mentioned as areas of concern. So I took low angles to show where light can pass through, and I took the tonneau off to show with light on the inside. I had Mike Lee check it out the other day when I was over at his shop. I'm sure if any of you ask him, he will tell you how good or bad it looked if you want another opinion.

Amazingly low pricing for this much work ! You gentlemen better step up while its hot I tell ya' !:tup:
Saved a Syclone....have you noticed if these are laid up with a sprayed Chopper-gun technique or hand laid cloth and wet rolled out ?
I'd like to meet Jose and teach him how to mod his molds for Resin Infusion for when he makes them in CF. It will be way stronger and lighter.
Let him know that I'm down in SoCal also-(Laguna) and want to meet up with you guys and check your Sy bed out !!

Stock 1st gen bed weighs 198 lbs, tailgate is 32. Add cladding to that,
If you ever take the bed off again be sure to throw it on a scale.
AUSyTyIN, brings up a really good point. The amount of drag the open bottom would create at high speeds would be pretty large. I imagine running a bolt on bed pan and some kind of fabbed rear inner fenders would remedy it.

Wow, I drop out of the scene for almost a year and some WAY COOL stuff comes along! Thanks for posting those pics so that I didn't have to Mr. Muffins :lol:. I weighed my bed ten years ago when Peter Humblias was looking to get a carbon fiber bed made and wanted to know what the weight savings would be. I got a video somewhere of me launching it in front of the shop bedless. MAJOR PROPS on the fabrication work :tup:!

Sorry All, been busy and haven't had a chance to answer any of you.
Jose lays all of this by hand, does the carbon fiber that way too. Not the most efficient for CF, but that is what he is set up for. No chopper gun at the shop, no vacuum type molding. All hand built and he keeps the prices pretty reasonable.

I did speak with Jose for a little bit today, we are definitely going to do front fenders and a front bumper cover soon. Jose was trying to convince me that we should do a one piece front end, I'm going to hold off for a year or so on that, but we may do it eventually. After the front fenders and bumper, we will be looking at building the underbody panels to smooth out the airflow underneath. I will effort to make these easy to install and lightweight for anyone who may want to add them.

Man, I want to go with a bed setup like that badly, but the aero aspect of it will be a nightmare at speed. In order to keep things stable, I would need to add a sheet of carbon on the bottom, and that would add some serious money for a sheet that size. Plus I would have to find a way to support everything I have in the bed (fuel tank, alky tank, fire bottle, battery, relay panels, etc). It seems like it would be a lot of money and work, and in the end I don't expect the weight savings would be enough to justify it.

I imagine all components would be held within their own aluminum tube framework, not held to the bed at all.
To avoid the costs of a lower pan made in CF...perhaps some flat aluminum sheet metal with beads rolled in to stiffen ? Held with self tap stainless bolts or rivets or even Zuess fasteners.
