Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

Front fenders with this bed would be perfect for clones! Any pictures of how the bed bolts together?

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

I will take some close up pics tomorrow to post and check with Jose on estimated shipping costs on Monday. I really have no idea on what it would cost to ship in pieces or whole, I just hope its cheap to help you out.

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

i'd be game on the cladding equipped fenders but the bed probably is going to be too much money plus prep for me to invest right now.

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

For comparison, this company make the beds without cladding for $2k ish.

I did a bit of guesstimating re the potential weight savings. Steel is 7.5g/cc and fibreglass is variable but around 1.5g/cc. Assuming increased thickness and slightly more volumes, the saving in weight could be up to 75%.

What does a truck bed weigh?

Impressive work!

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

For some reason it's raining in LA today, its not really supposed to do that. I will take some pics of inside bed when it lets up.

No bed floor or fenderwells. I didn't need all of that, plus made it much cheaper and lighter. As mentioned earlier, i was going for weight savings, I figured I could add a package tray with straps under the tonneau if I really needed to carry something under the bed, or just borrow the wife's SUV.

Another benefit that I didn't mention, and a reason I did the bed and will do the fenders soon, I can run the truck lower, and yet give myself enough suspension travel to ride better than stock. The tires can tuck up under the fenderwells without hitting the cladding. The back is far improved in suspension travel and ride.

I will be hunting down information for all those who asked, and calling and posting asap. I should know in next couple of hours the pricing, some shipping info and I will probably post Jose's number (US Bodykits) as well.

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

I talked to Jose about a bunch of different parts, here's his estimates for the various components:

Syclone bed like mine, no bedfloor or fenderwells, with tailgate integrated:

Fiberglass, 4 separate pieces, you will have to glass them together: 900
Fiberglass, 1 piece assembled: 1200
Fiberglass, 2 bedsides only for installation similar to a prerunner truck: 500

All prices do not include any of the metal structure that I built on mine. I can get prices on that from other buddys if desired. Also not sure on shipping, working on that as well...

If you want stuff in carbon fiber, they can do them 2 different ways. The first is just for weight savings, not for the look. The second is if you want to show the carbon fiber raw, they will sand it clear it buff it, make it pretty. (They do a lot of import stuff, fast and furious and drift styles where some of this is popular)

Carbon fiber for weight only, 4 separate pieces, you will have to glass them together: 1600
Carbon fiber for weight only,1 piece assembled: 1900
Carbon fiber for weight only, 2 bedsides only for installation similar to a prerunner truck: 900

If you want a shiny carbon fiber bed for looks, it will have to be made in one piece, Probably around 2800

All prices do not include any of the metal structure that I built on mine. I can get prices on that from other buddys if desired. Also, not sure on shipping, working on that as well....

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

And on to fiberglass bumper and fenders...

I will find some downtime to get these built next month. Not sure if anyone offers the front bumper, but Jose told me 200 for that part in fiberglass.

As for the fenders, we will be building them with little to no inner structure for mounting inner fenders, other components. Not sure if this works for all of you, but that's what our plan is. I will let you know the exact price of that once we build them and have pictures. Estimate for 2 fenders is 350 in glass.

I will post more on these components once we actually build them.

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

Can we get a pic of one of the rear wheels, at an almost dead on angle? I'm trying to decide if not having wheel tubs will look funny.

I'm also trying to figure out if the airflow under the truck will try to tear this thing off @ speed, with no bed floor. I have a solid bed cover I would have to adapt to this, so I'm worried it would almost act like a parachute and catch the air.

Major F'N props to someone for coming forward with a new product for the SyTy market! :woot:

Re: Syclone Fiberglass Bed

If you are driving around without a bottom on the bed, it will act like a parachute and slow you down. If you hit speeds fast enough, it could break apart or even fly off. Just something to think about...

Jose sounds like a cool dude.I hope nobody sues him when their bed explodes at 150 mph causing the truck to lose control and roll 17 times.
