Re: Sputtering Ty

u said the fuel press was 48 with vaccum line hooked up. it would be much less like around 35 with engine at idle. pull ur vac line when u set it at idle and plug the linewith a bolt or something

Re: Sputtering Ty

Well done a complete tuneup and it appears I have a combination problem. The sputtering improved greatly, now it seems there is a sputter cough only within the 2000-3000rpm range. Under or over that RPM it seems to do fine. I have turned the boost way down as well. Is the TPS a possiblity for this problem?

Re: Sputtering Ty

Ok anyone know where i can turn next?
Plugs, wires, button, cap, fuel filter, gas, TPS, conoverter deleted, fuel press good. AFR looks lean at idle and low rpm, a lil fat AWOT....???? Still a serious cough/ stutter at initial take-off and OD rpms. Boost launch and high rpm driving is fine. THX-R

Re: Sputtering Ty

Vac lines? Inc the one to the canister at the front of the truck and the line running to the fuel tank?

Is your EGR plate smooth or recessed? If it's from RPM then the recess should be showing, if it's from anyone else then it should be a smooth plate.

Re: Sputtering Ty

I replaced all the vacuum lines with 3/16 and tested those as well, yes EGR plate is recessed from RPM. Also this truck isnt throwing any codes either. Getting beyond frustration...lol

Re: Sputtering Ty

I had a N/A vehicle awhile back that sounded like yours and it was the cat.....Expensive trial and error piece to replace though, if thats not the problem

Re: Sputtering Ty

Well fortunately I can rule that one out. I eliminated it yesterday with no change in symptoms

Re: Sputtering Ty

Would Idle-Air control valve or the coolant temp sensor cause these type symptoms? Or would they throw codes as well?

Be carful you don't overboost with no cat once you get it running right.

I was thinking IAC, but not sure how that would affect it under load. Maybe you have an injector thaty took a dump on you? Can you do a compression test to maybe find a culprit cylinder?

Re: Sputtering Ty

Damn, that would really suck to do a comp test lol. No easy way around that huh? Im thinking injector could be culprit, but you would think it would stay lame through higher RPM? If you punch it--it runs great

Re: Sputtering Ty

Just brainstorming....

Is your fuel pump stock? Maybe it is getting ready to quit completely on you soon.

Also can't hurt to check your O2 sensor to see if it is original either. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with your specific problem or not, but it's one of those tune-up things to consider.

Try searching different things like "surging" "rough idle" etc.....maybe something in one of those older threads will jump out at you

Re: Sputtering Ty

Walboro upgraded pump changed 10k ago....I hope not. This is a first, works right under a good load, now it will not take light throttle. Surely someone has had this problem before :) Searchin so far, but can't exactly find the same issue. Like I said AFR reads lean in gear at low RPM, and a tad rich when you mash it, and the sputtering clears out...like an old carbuerator...lol

Re: Sputtering Ty

On a side note, I remember hearing about "fake" Walbro pumps on Ebay a while back. Just in case yours was purchased there.

Re: Sputtering Ty

Looks similar to boostedSUV's past problems to be honest. Pump was Sy/Ty vendor pump, not ebay, so should be ok on that.
