Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

I was into S10s and looking to get more performance out of my truck. A co-worker told me about Syclones and this article he read back in the day about a guy in Europe that had done up a Syclone, etc etc. Anyway started looking into them online and fell in love with them. A few years later, I sold my S10 and bought a Syclone. Been a dream come true ever since. :)

This is the article that he told me about:

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

Couple years ago when I started messing around with my blazer, a friend in highschool showed me a website that had all the specs of sytys. At the time I didnt think anything about it, I was more into the big rims and having a loud subwoofer than to have a fast truck . Anyways about a year later I was on www.blazinlow.com and started reading a few posts about them, then I found our forum and just kept reading the sytykills for months, and was amazed at how fast they were. Then last summer at the beach I saw a 93 black typhoon (first syty I have ever seen in person) and said to myself that day im gonna buy one of these... :banghead: I had actaully been thinking about it for months and just seeing one in person kinda sealed the deal. Anyways after I got back from vacation I stopped lurking on this website and joined, and about a month later I bought jeremysyty's typhoon. Hard to think ive owned it a year already, and it still runs :rotf:

I hadn't actually ever heard of them until I saw a Ty in the window of a GMC dealership here in Seattle. That dealership is long gone now but it had a Blue and Grey Ty in the window. I of course had no idea how rare the blue/grey's were as it was the first time I'd laid eyes on a Ty at all. I read up on them and immediately hated them for being quicker than my beloved 928 S4.

As you can see I've come to grips with my issues.

I was a "wrench bitch" to a -96 imala owner, when on a race here in Sweden, then this guy (impala owner) waved his hands and pointed to a space in the pits besides us, and there MrSyclone parked up his Sy.. :D

We became friends in an instant and HE had the tools I needed to the impala, And I helped mrSyclone with the tire change and up on the starting line and pushed him to stay on and run a couple of more runs when he did drop his personal best in the first run ( a fast 11.19) so I made him run again and a 11.07 was on the score board..Boy was Robert happy then :D as happy when he does a good run these days still.

The rest is a short story, I and Robert did some work at the impala and soon we bouth stoped help that guy and I´ve been one off the "theam Syclone W bitches" ever sinse and he told me all I know about the SyTy world, and Im still on the "voyage" to faster times with him ..

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

Well we got our TY only a month or so ago.....

I needed a turbocharged auto to help promote my business..... I was dammed if I was going to get a common (Im in the UK) Jap or Euro car.

So I searched on the net for Turbocharged Yanks....

The Typhoon looked perfect for us. So after asking a few questions on here..... I sold all 3 of our cars (86 Trans Am , 84 Corvette & Our Euro Box). And purchased a Typhoon. With out ever seeing one or having a drive. I was damm lucky to even find one for sale in the UK. Had it picked up and delivered to our door.

Also purchased a 20K mile 96 Mustang GT as the new shopping cart, seen plenty but again never driven one, had that delivered as well

Were very happy with both , but buying blind is a scary thing

Seems like most of you members were either young-uns or not even around!!

Started reading in the trade mags. about something coming from GMC that was going to put GN's/Turbo T's to shame!! Somthing that would outrun my turbo Buick?!?? This I GOTTA see!! When it came out, took a test drive and was hooked. Problem was, I was still early in my career, and couldn't afford that kind of payment! Then the Ty's hit the next year! ...and they were priced even higher!! Not a chance!! Bought the hats and left it at that.

Until 18 mo. ago, when I was looking for an AWD to drive on bad weather days. Was looking at Suby-goo Wrecks, but didn't want to pay that much ($20K) for even a USED one. I was talking to Russ (he and I both own Dakota R/Ts) and he told me he'd just bought his dream truck, a Syclone! It was like the Furd lightbulb going off in my head!! Why not a used Typhoon?!?? I MIGHT be able to find one under 50K miles for around $15K....hmmm!! Found my Red/Red in my hometown of C. Springs, you know the rest....!!!

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

My first experience with SyTy's was the 2nd week of Jan 1993.
I was working as an alarm installer for Behlmann GMC and was privelidged enough to drive a TY down to the shop, make the install and drive it back. needless to say I was thuroughly impressed. i talked to a salesman upon returning and it turns out that I could never have afforded one on the funds I was making at the time. We talked more and eventually got around to looking at a SoGT. I test drove it around the block and decided I had to have it. I called Mom up at the bank (lucky she was in financing dept) and told her the story. She talked to her boss and called me back with the approval. I traded in my 1991 S-10 and drove the Teal SoGT home that evening. I've stil got it with 168,xxx miles on it and mechanically sound. If it weren't for buying the SY the exterior might have been freshly painted by now as well.

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

My brother always talked about getting a typhoon since he was a turbo buick guy but I didn't want to hear it nor did I care I was 17 and owned a fox mustang.. dumped a bunch of bolt ons on and blew thru three trannies learning the ways of the street sceen and spent many of 3am nights racing and learning what worked and what didn't.. lined up against this black pickup one day at atco raceway just after I got installing my vortech s trim i worked 10 months for day in and day out only to get smoked badly by this little pickup truck.. no traction bars no big tire or loud exhaust.. My brother comes and pats me on the back and says "that syclone f'd your shit up little bro hahah" after that I kept an eye out for sy for some time.. until I found one for sale locally which sparked me on a kick and had to have one.. searched for another two years until I found one that wasn't too modified or chopped up and now im poor

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

I was getting rid of my honda accord and I was telling a friend of mine I wished I had never gotten rid of my 93' blazer, and that I may be looking into getting something similar to that but also possibly picking up some kind of "toy" to have fun with. Thats when he smiled and told me all about the Ty. I was skeptical at first but when I went on line and found all of the info I was hooked, one month later it was sitting in the driveway

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

I met this guy who went by the name "T" he helped me out with my nitrous install on my 86 GN, he owned a couple of real fast nitrous street cars, one was a typhoon, i couldnt believe the launch it had, so i decided if i ever sell the gn, i'd be looking for a nice typhoon

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

Yesterday, I just remembered where I first learned about Sy/Ty's!

The year was probably about 1992, which means I was 10. I liked building models back then. Growing up, my dad bought an S15 (like an '83 or so), and I saw a Syclone model, and thought it looked alot like my dad's old truck. So I bought it and built it. As my love for cars started growing in the next couple years or so, I began to realize how kick ass that little truck actually was. Reading the stats, I found it very impressive. The truck was just a symbol in my head of pure kickassness (fine word). As I got my license in high school and looking for a car, a Syclone was always something that I though would be awesome to own, but they were always too expensive. Until two years ago, when I was able to pick up mine!

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

i heard about the trucks from a freinds dad that was looking at them in late 91, we went to the dealer and man what a sweet ride, i wanted one so bad but no way i could afford the insurance let alone the truck, then in 92/93 i used to go to the street races in dallas everyweekend, and im not sure if it was a 92 or a 93 there was a black Ty that had alittle work done and was just killing everybody, the boosted launch had me hooked and i said one day i will own one.

When i bought my SGT i was looking for a Sy but couldnt find a good deal on a low milage truck, and stumbled across the SGT with 53K original miles and talked to the guy over the phone a few times, got some pics and made the deal then flew to Boston and drove it home, and got 24MPG all the way,

The Ty was more of an impulse buy and i was told it was in better shape then it turned out to be in, so you win some you loose some. I guess thats what happens when you buy a truck that doesnt run.

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

I got a ride in a brand new Typhoon when I was a kid, (my uncles) man that thing was sweet. I never got to see it again, he sold it for pretty cheap in the mid 90's, and he lived out of state. After that I always wanted one, but never put any serious thought into it untill a few years ago. Now I'm working on building a 4 door clone, and hope to purchase a real one this summer, if my f-ing Vette ever gets sold. Damn thing! :D

Re: How did you first learn about syty's?

I was sitting in the school library reading motor trend and car and driver when they first came out. Really wanted one ever since then and in 1995 saw one in the wheels and deals in Muncie, IN. Went and looked at it, the kid wouldn't even let me test just gave me a test ride and i still fell in love with it. Ended up buying it a few weeks later and have had it ever since. The guys name is Troy Love that owned it i think he was the 2nd owner and his grandpa help him buy it. Pretty neat feeling looking at one in the mag. then owning one when it was only 4yrs old.
