You did thank John but you then started talking about not wanting to get into a "peepee match" with TwinTurbo, thus not thanking TTV8Ty.

Their advice was a little bit inconsistent granted but for the most part it is: don't change the gears but if you do, you prob want to go lower but not too much.

I don't want to be involved in a tit for who said what thread so I'll bow out. I hope you get the answers to the questions you're after and I look forward to the results.

quickstop thanks for being civil,its kinda nice to talk normally again with someone.9 seconds is the number that will take all tricks,i know this,its a nice challenge,i also know weight is a huge factory in quarter mile,this is where i will have a large advantage over others and this is also why i can get away with not having huge hp numbers or shifting at over 6000 or running extreme amounts of boost.weight wise we will see final numbers next week and we hit the scale.but i have a good idea where i am at and its well under 3000lbs without a dout,i will have pictures and video when all is said and done.
i am peaking at 5100,looks like i can pull to 6000 in third if i need to,wont really know until i get a real test run down the track and see how she feels.
yup i am trying to do a winter build that is shooting for 9's and its my first time building an awd syclone.i am reaching for the stars.i know exactly how crazy this sounds and how foolish it sounds to all the people on here. :)

quickstop TTV8Ty tryed to belittle me and my build,99% of syty owners know not to mess with gearing,like i am some dummy,then he stated he made 380 on a stock engine implying i wasted my time building my engine up the right way.why say thanks to him.nope not into people who act like that.sometimes people need to be brought down a level and break the legs from there high horse.sorry its just me.
thanks for the luck quick,but i wont need it,i do everything calculated and backed up,luck plays no part in going fast. :)

IMO, your situation is simple. Being that I build drag cars and have been racing for 30 years, maybe my suggestion will hold some water in your world. I quoted a line above from one of your posts. You have already solved your issue. No one knows exactly what YOUR truck will do at the track. You state you have been racing for years. Great. You will then be able to easily see where I am coming from. Wait until you get your truck down the qtr mile. See how it runs and what your trap rpm is. Decide what your tune may net you when you make changes including when you turn up the boost. You know where your engine makes power and should be able to form your own opinion on what you want your trap rpm to be. I am sure your racing experience tells you that. Once you see what trap rpms are, make your decisions from there. If your 300 rpms from where you want to be, a change in tune would easily net you the rpms. If your 1400 rpms from where you want to be, I am sure you can do the math to determine what type of a ratio change will put you closer to the rpm's you want to be at. With your racing experience I am sure that you realize that chassis changes will net different 60" times which will then effect your et and mph which effect your trap rpm. I am sure you will sort out the chassis and tune and then determine 2 things. #1 is if you need to change gear ratio's and #2 if a change is warranted, what ratio you will go with.

You asked for opinions and were specific to your situation and desires. No one here has your exact build so no one can give you the exact answer your looking for. These trucks are odd. None of them run the same. YOU need to test YOUR truck and see the results. You can't argue with your own data. Obtain it and then go from there. Good luck.

When I bought my first sy it had 4.11 gears,ran like a bitch for about 75 yards and than fell on its face.Changed back to 3.42's and it was a whole different truck.A couple years ago I went to 3.23's in my current sy with a 26.1 tire and like that even more.60's didnt change and picked up a tenth.

Where did you get the 4.11 and the 3.23 gears for the front diff?

I hope that your truck is very very light and which i don't know what you have done but for the Hp that you are making you would have to be under 2k lbs to get into the 9's

Here is a caculator to figure it.
http://robrobinette.com/et.htm Granted it is just an estimate but it is pretty close.
plug in 382hp and 1930lbs and that will give you a 9 in the 1/4 but i highly doubt that your truck weight's any where close to that.

I personally have lightened my truck up alot and is probaly in the 10 ten of the lightest trucks out there for still having stock interior and also stock exterior and i am right at 3klbs with a half tank of fuel and taptop and other small stuff in it.


I would like to know what is all done to the truck. Motor build specs (block stock(filled or not) or bowtie, heads, turbo, intake and so forth). The suspension (coil overs or torsion bars, 4 link or leafs with caltracs or what). What tires you are planning on running also.

I am just trying to see what you are working with to be able to run 9's.

gears came from Gm,still have the 4.10's if anyone wants them.A fellow that worked for GMPP got them for me.

I have not experimented with gearing, but i am very interested in knowing what your build is. Also post where you are located please, you might find some locals to hang/help/get help. I am a person that works on one thing at a time (especially big items). I would suggest getting out and do some testing to see where you are right now. You might find yourself fine tuning alot more than just gearing. :2cents:
