Fun with a customers truck! Post #2

Hindsight is 20/20...

Hey Dave sent his truck there - that was his decision. Also what happened there with the tuning is between Guy and him.

I would like to know if I sent a car somewhere , that they would treat my car with respect , and what they did was in the name of tuning it.

But also I like people coming out and questioning what was done. Some of what was done - just does not sound right. Maybe it was ok , probably it wasn't . And personally - I wouldnt want to have Big Dave mad at me.... has anyone actually seen him ? Not a little guy. I think he could fairly easily rip my arms off...but back to something else from the past.

We did offer to help Dave get his truck setup and dynoed down in LA years ago. When him and Patrick came down to LA and ran at Pomona.

The same dynoshop - the same tuner that did Mikes Ty , Guys Sy , My Ty , Daves Ty , etc ,etc.

A dyno is a controlled environment . With a wideband you can actually do some tuning.

Street tuning for driveablilty is one thing . Hammering it up and down the street shows a real lack of sofistication.

Dyno time is around $100 an hour . Pulling the driveshaft is about a 30 minute job. I am sure there are lots of Dynojets in the Chicago area . Why was it not tuned on a dyno ? You better be asking these questions. $100 an hour now or $17,000 and 6 months for another engine.

Now that I am in the situation where we are tuning customers cars , there are some different rules. If I am going to do something its with the customers approval.

I can tell you what happened Dave went and got his sy the the speed pro installed and then a few months later we drove to the dyno shop that mike lee uses and we had him and the tuner guy tune the truck. it was fast as hell. now he is waiting on his tranny to be finished because his art carr build and non lock up converter took a shit after being driven at a high rate of speed for a semi long distance. but the dog like the ride :D
I think that best sums it up in the least amount of words. oh and its got a 80mm I mean err a 66 on it now hahahahahhaahhaaha

Yeah what Josh said.

The front diff broke in Rockford when we were first starting to tune the truck. This was not from launching the truck. It was due to the fact that I trusted Al Dustan with the possesion of my truck. Al installed the front locker in the truck while installing his suspension kits. No diff fluid was put in the diff after installed back into the truck. That really sucked because I was stoked to go to the RSD up in Wisconsin with it.

Nothing like being a bald white guy in the middle of about 75-100 black guys yelling/betting on races at a drag strip. Best HEADS UP racing with street cars I've seen at a racetrack. It was cool!!! Saw the red, white and blue typhoon run in the 11's there.

The 9inch non-lockup art carr finally died after some street racing. It didn't like 5200rpm in overdrive for about 10 miles. The converter pretty much melted inside.

*Josh, Hagen was not happy with the ride at all. Kept kinking his head at the sound of 20psi.

LOL, that's the way Job Spetter at Turbo People tuned my friends car. Threw a rod, handed the car back to him and basically said "Sorry, it's not our fault".
