I recall that vividly. Ivan had the webpage from hell up, documenting his side of it all. I believe the response to it was that it was all BS and the result of Guy not hiring Ivan on at RR after he opened shop.

Despite the stupid crap Ivan pulled with fuel rails he was telling the truth on that whole story. BG and I were at his house when he picked up all his "shhtuff", no matter what Ivan tried to do he got nowhere, the blame was always someone elses...zero accountability...

I don't usually reply to stupid threads like this, but I'll try to set the record straight.

I don't think Spin would know if the burnout marks were from the truck in question. He wasn't there when most of the testing had been done. The customer's main complaint was no boost at launch. When I first drove the truck, the fuel map was all over the place, and the truck made little boost. Before driving it again,I went through the fuel map, and made some adjustments the wastegate. I made some test launches at the end of the pavement where my shop is (same as in the pictures)and felt there was real improvement. It did spin it's tires quite a bit, even though it was only launching at around 3 PSI.

Now, are those marks visible in the pics? I think so, although they are pretty light. My only mistake was not cleaning them off prior to a major local gathering at my shop the following week. My marks only served as an invitation for the '69 chevelle that is stored right where the marks were, and the many other cars who attempted to one-up each other during the day. The long s-shaped burnout was from a 93 Cobra, and ended up costing me a share of the sealcoating the owner of the property did later that month.

Both Spin and an employee at my shop saw wheel time during testing before and after this day. The customer's other main complaint was knock while on boost, and I wanted to be able to view whether there was actual knock in real time, rather than on a data log after the fact. I rode as a passenger, keeping my eye on the data log. Fortunately, we didn't get a knock after I had tweaked the fuel map.

My tuning of this particular truck netted a significant improvement at the dragstrip. We made several passes slowly bringing up the boost and ignition timing, as well as fine tuning the fuel map. We never even got over 14 psi since a split intercooler connection hose ended our day. This was done carefully, under controlled circumstances, so as to minimize possible damage. I didn't originally tune or build this truck so I had to be careful.

I always prefer to do my testing WITH the customer present, in the truck, with them driving. At least as much as they have time for. Some customers don't have the time to tune with me, and those people are happy to have me do it. I am always very up front with the customer about how many miles I'll put on the truck before delivery. This customer was no exception.

My shop is always overflowing with work, some people wait months for appointment, and others drive hundreds of miles for routine work they trust no one else for. Ultimately, I think that is what is important.

Obviously this is getting way out of hand.
Man, for those of you who missed the little gathering at RR on Sunday you missed a BAD ASS syclone. Motherfucker ran an 11.20 out of tune.
Of course I had to drive it a little. Who all took a ride? What did ya think?

I especially like roasting all 4 tires off the line then getting up to 80 mph in like a few seconds.

I also obtained a large erection from this Syclone. CANT WAIT FOR THE FUCKING TY TO BE DONE!!!! HEADS AND BLOCK COME THIS WEEK!

This is the original post of the Rockford Racing website from February of the beginning of this year. Did I drive this truck? Yes? But did I embellish? of course!

RR was getting the sy prepared to go to the drag strip and was tuning the DFI. The truck had recently gotten dropped off and I was out at the shop preparing for a picnic we were going to have.

Guy asked if I could drive while he was datalogging DFI. They were going to the track the next day I think. So he did some drivability tuning and we also made a couple low boost launches. Even at low boost this truck was violent as sh*t. It is going to be a monster when it is finished.

So did I beat on it? Hell no. Did anyone else ride in it with me besides Guy? No, but I can sure as hell tease my v8 buddies. Did I enjoy the one chance I had to get to help RR tune a badass syclone? F$ck yeah!

This customer specifically asked asked RR to tune it and take it to the track to see how much improvement they could get with the new Speedpro. I think after RR got it they just realized it wasnt very fair to compare an untuned to DFI to a tuned Speedpro.

So in conclusion, try not to take things out of context. It amazes me someone would take all the energy to search through BB archives from February of this year, save it, post it, and try to make it an issue, when you you could have done is dropped a 10 word email to RR or myself to ask about it.

As I said before, the great thing about the syty community is that we all have eachothers back for the most part. Its crap like this that makes people want to leave. Luckily some of us love the trucks.

I like how your story changed once you and Guy worked out how you were going to cover this one up.

Guys post conflicts with SPIN's original posts so badly - you know it can only be more lies "tuned" by RR.

I don't usually reply to stupid threads like this, but I'll try to set the record straight.

You can write this thread off as stupid, but I don't think it is. It's the lounge, watching each others' backs is what we do. Idle talk & such is what goes on here. Having people delete the threads because they are 'slanderous' (?) is BS, and will only make the situation look worse. It seems you are the only ones talking down the whole situation.

When I was at the shop, it seemed all I heard about was abuse of the truck. I saw tracks all over that were AWD, and reputed to be from that truck, stories of it at the track, tweaking it, pushing for faster times, then popping the IC pipe and shorting the battery with that pipe.

I know as well as the next guy, that you are going to abuse a truck to tune it and dial it in (whether you are talking engine tuning, suspension etc), but if Dave was going Speedpro (which I emailed him about months before he got the truck to you), there's no reason to be doing all that on the DFI, and the way the truck was currently setup. If he requested a baseline before Speedpro, that's an instance where the customer does NOT know best, and you advise him as such. The Speedpro is vastly superior than the old DFi, and can be setup for great performance and drivability very quickly. The DFI had a questionable tune, and is plain unsafe in that situation. To go out doing blasts and track runs is plain stupid, akin to saying "My Syclone has no intercooler pump, and the wrong spark plugs; I'm going to change them but before that, I'm gonna go see what it runs". If the truck is having problems building boost at the line, you don't have to do a bunch of high boost, tire peeling launches to figure out if it's working correctly, do you? I did see 3 wheel burnout marks, no question about it. I did see a long set from a RWD obviously. I couldn't believe what I heard then, don't believe it now, I'm just talking about it now since it came up.

from spin's first post: I especially like roasting all 4 tires off the line then getting up to 80 mph in like a few seconds.

Does this sound like chirping? dont think so guys..

Regardless of what the customer says, as a shop I would insist the customer be there while tuning it, or I wouldnt tune it at all. WHat are you going to say if a rod gets thrown through the side of the block? oops, sorry. Wasn't our fault! If the customer has built a truck to this magnitude, and doesnt have the tiome for one day of tuning, there is a major problem.

Few things...

1st - This is my truck everyone is talking about.

2nd - I told Guy to give the DFI fuel maps a once over and take it to the track for some baseline times. I had not sent the SP to him yet. BG says that it was wrong to tune the DFI. I wanted better numbers ASAP dude. I guess that makes me a dumbass. Just ask Ghettosled.

3rd - I have not talked to Guy directly yet but have been playing phone tag since leaving him a voicemail a couple days ago. He told me that his brother and some dude named Matt were the only people that drove the truck with him in it. He has left me a voicemail both days since I called ensuring me that no harm has been done to the truck.

4th - Ghettosled says that I'm a dumbass for sending my truck there. That's not a very good thing for a business to say. I do wish I could be there for the tuning but time doesn't permit it. The truck has sat to long and I want it done. People are getting to close to my back bumper at the street races.

5th - Where are other shops that will do tuning, Al Datsun suspension, painting, roll bar, and misc stuff that KNOW what a syclone or typhoon is?

6th - The truck is there and I'm not going to take it back. I appreciate knowing that something went on but it seems there is a little overkill on thrashing RR. If I'm getting fucked thats my fault. I will let you all know how the truck runs(or doesnt run) when it is done and how much I got taken for.

7th - Engulfing Darkness you need to let out the MSB and relax dude!!!

8th - I think I'm borderline of becoming an internet tuff guy with the Mike Lee "Dumbass" comment.

9th - "Why cant we all just get along!" Rodney King (a rich ass crackhead thug who got paid for being amped in the right place at the right time.)

Mike has his own oppinion as well as green.. personally I haven't seen the results of an ass test yet...

telephone tag is quite common... although RR is by no means his main source of employment.

4th - Ghettosled says that I'm a dumbass for sending my truck there. That's not a very good thing for a business to say. I do wish I could be there for the tuning but time doesn't permit it. FoUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah ha ha

Mike is a very knowledgeable owner/tuner/fellow.. business practices asside if he has a reason for not recommending a competitor over 2000 miles away it might quite possibly be justified..

5th - Where are other shops that will do tuning, Al Datsun suspension, painting, roll bar, and misc stuff that KNOW what a syclone or typhoon is?

FivE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah ha ha

Aren't many specialized out there.. Mike who opened up shop (AR).. Sound Performance (I'm not good friends w/ Ivan.. but he knows his SyTy Sh!t).. Sean Morris - at MotoRex..
Knowledgeable folks who could point you in the right direction of a trustworthy mechanic or help tune themselves..
Brian "Just call him Jesus" Green ..There's Jeff in Kentucky.. John Waller in Georgia.. NWSTP guys.. FAST Guys.. just have to ask for help.. most have an open hand...

6th - The truck is there and I'm not going to take it back. I appreciate knowing that something went on but it seems there is a little overkill on thrashing RR. If I'm getting fucked thats my fault. SiX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah ha ha

Yes it's your truck... If it was mine though I sure would be appreciative to the fact that other people were thinking enough of me that they would stand up and say something
.. especially people that have many years of experience working/developing/tuning.. that are trustworthy...

7th - Engulfing Darkness you need to let out the MSB and relax dude!!!

SeVEn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah ha ha

Yeah Tyler does sound like he needs the #5 Golden pussy massage..

8th - I think I'm borderline of becoming an internet tuff guy with the Mike Lee "Dumbass" comment.

I don't know... Wasn't Mike that white dude w/ glasses from office space.. U know the guy who was sittin in his car jammin to rap.
Yeah after I saw him bust up that copy machine I was runnin too...

9th - "Why cant we all just get along!" Rodney King (a rich ass crackhead thug who got paid for being amped in the right place at the right time.)

NinE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah ha ha

Or a doped up college student who sucked up enough hydrocarbons to take a magic carpet ride...

Not speaking on behalf of anyone else but myself.. I can tell you that I've been on this board since it's conception along with years on the syty list.. I sent buisness to RR as well.. bought $1800 in parts.. as well as sending a SyTy Baer Brake Group Purchase through..probably in excess of $10,000..
Personally I haven't experience a problem..
I have heard some pretty scr#wed up stories although of people who have had wrongful experiences with RR... and these aren't the oh I forgot your invoice.. or oops I overcharged you by $20.. These stories are the ones that take intent....

I'm sorry you had to be involved as part of these posts Dave... I call em' as I see em.. Didn't see this one but, thing is we care... Listers just try to voice an injustice if we see or hear one... take care... Let me or the rest of the board know if we can help when you need it..

It is not rocket science. Does a shop have to know what a SyTy is to paint a body panel? Do they have to know what a SyTy is to install a suspension system on a solid axle car? Roll cages are custom for every car, what does a truck interior do to make it so hard.

This is what you have been led to believe people - anyone who knows what they are doing can work on a syty. Want a motor built? Someone with experience helps, but you can get a good idea of what you want done from other owners and what parts to use, and it's pretty hard to fuck up from that point on.

Tuning? Anyone who knows SpeedPro can tune an NA/Forced Induction vehicle. You can get your speedpro tuned on any corner in the northeast states.

7th - Engulfing Darkness you need to let out the MSB and relax dude!!!

Why does every post on the internet have to be related to a penis problem or sperm problem or something? You want me to (theoretically) release it? No prob - how about on your face? I can be childish too.

Dave the reason I referred to anyone as a "dumbass" is that I care. I dont want to see you, or anyone else get taken advantage of. This has nothing to do with RR. The fact that you gave ANY shop full rights to do all this stuff, without being there just baffles me.

<<--2nd - I told Guy to give the DFI fuel maps a once over and take it to the track for some baseline times. I had not sent the SP to him yet. BG says that it was wrong to tune the DFI. I wanted better numbers ASAP dude. I guess that makes me a dumbass. Just ask Ghettosled. <--

why risk a $17k motor just to see immediate numbers when you have better plans in the near future??? As a friend/businessman/shop owner, etc, I would have insisted you be patient.

Dave, we tried to help you years ago. You didn't want to listen. I would have chosen an accurate dyno, equipted with a motec meter and one of the best tuners in the world, over a seat of the pants street dataloging session. Not to mention, the place wasnt even that far away.

--->5th - Where are other shops that will do tuning, Al Datsun suspension, painting, roll bar, and misc stuff that KNOW what a syclone or typhoon is? <<---

I'll leave this one alone.

<<--8th - I think I'm borderline of becoming an internet tuff guy with the Mike Lee "Dumbass" comment. <--

Dave, you did not build a mild street car. You will learn that no matter what shop you go to, they will try to screw you some way or another. If you are not a part of this process, you are going to dig your self in a deep hole. You can't rely on a shop to do everything, if you arent there to assist and monitor their work.

-->Peace to all except Mike Lee<--

Can't help it I tell it like it is. I'm not going to try and win over people to buy parts from me. I could care less. I have a real job, that pays well, and occupies most of my time.

The rest of my time is spent working on my own truck. I hardly have any time for it, but I make time. I like racing as a hobby, not as a full time business. When it comes to my truck, I want things to be done right. Putting down an honest 667hp to the ground on PUMP GAS(no alchy injection, nos, etc) is something that I can say I personally accomplished. I didnt go buy a turn key car from someone else and try to build a business off it.
