Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

ive gotten some offers already.. some offers I never expected and I still passed. I do not plan on selling this for a flip lol..
ill admit in past, ive bought a lot of stuff to flip.. but for the typhoons.. they have always been a dream truck of mine, and the fact that now i own two its just surreal to me. I told my dad about the offers and he almost got upset with me because i passed on them, but i told him that i didn't buy this for the money flip, i bought it because these trucks are something i really enjoy owning, and working on and driving, plus getting to meet other owners and hearing there stories, seeing there trucks.. its just a awesome thing to be involved with!

Well what you just said is how I and most SyTy owners feel. Having one is amazing, 2 or 3, surreal! But 1 gets expensive and tricky, so get ready for it! Good for you, at your age it's alot to handle. And by flip it, I just mean sell it. I'm sure you bought it at a good price and could make some quick money. IDK what offers you've had, but some numbers are hard to say no to! Good luck, I look forward to seeing it shine!!

Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

So how does a truck that's in this good of a condition just get put away like that? Can you elaborate any more on the history? It sounded like it didn't run but obviously that isn't the case here.

I am also guessing the patches on it that have worn through ate due to flapping tarpaulin or something?

You never know when diamonds like these will show up. What an amazing find.

when I arrived back with the cash from bank, that was first question I asked her was how did you of all people let alone a woman, end up with a typhoon AND a syclone..
she said her son back in highschool seen it for sale in the area and just had to have it, they agreed to work on it and be a mother/son project.. we from what she was saying he quickly lost interest in it being a teenager and rather party and hang with girls. so it sat shortly after, she did say she started it a few times and did store it at another location for a good while "which is the few times I stopped by and didn't see it out there anymore". She brought it back home this summer hoping to sell it, said she had a few people stop by but no one wanted to buy, they just wanted to look..
As for the syclone, shorty after the typhoon got put away, her husband came home one day and said he bought a truck.. She walked outside and seen it was a black syclone, she did not have any idea at the time what it was even though she owned a typhoon.. A little back story on that, she actually worked with the guy that owned it and he sold it to her husband but was not aware them two knew eachother. So there she was with 2 trucks.. But after the husband lost interest the daughter drove the sy for a while. It had a waterpump leak, so she took it to a shop down the street "Milton is a very very small town".. week later she gets it back and its pouring white smoke out the exhaust, long story short they beat the shit out of the truck and blew the motor. She spent 6800$ on a new motor at 40k miles and she said she has recipts also of that.. Im not sure the issue on the repaint of the sy though. But after that her daughter was then in college and there they sat with being moved for a while to storage, till I stopped by and heard the story..
I have actually been in touch with her since ive brought the typhoon home. She is very sad she sold it, but at same time I been sending her pictures of progress and is very happy that it went to a good home where its getting fixed up and cleaned up.
sorry for the novel, just ive never ever owned a vehical with a story like this, and I know one day ill look back and be able to read this and still pop a smile ;)

Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

Little update, got the grille off so I can clean it and also figure out why only 3 of the signal lights worked.. Ended up being a broken connection, a
Bad bulb and dirty socket.. I also pulled the front bumper out a bit so it's not smashed against the grille anymore. Someone must have had a small fender bender. Also pulled a plug out and it looks very very old. From factory did these have acdelco plugs ?

Looking good! I think you should go back and strike a deal on the Sy, black and Teal look good in the garage side by side. Here are a couple shots of mine.

Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

Yea I been glancing at your pictures, this color has really grown on me! I
Brought the ty to work today, 30 min doin 65 and 0
Complaints, rides and drives like a dream but that's also not getting into boost lol

Also we ordered two of the teal Johnny lightnings last night, one for us and the other I will take up to the previous owner hopefully this weekend and also let her see the typhoon cleaned up. We also oredered new sticker set since the stickers on doors are both very rough shape and peeling off

Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

Well got the new wires in and new ngk ur6 plugs gapped at .032.. Truck runs very very smooth but still have major overboosting. Hit 20psi for a split sec and I was only 80ish % throttle.. And oh yea... Lots and lots of knock!!! Can't get in boost without it. I have 93 in tank, I have made sure timing is at 0 with wire unplugged. Next is to check fuel pressure and vac test and whatever else you guys suggest

Fuel pump and regulator.....even stock form I don't believe these were sufficient. Put a forge gate on that baby. Goodluck

Does it have a cat? Or is it gutted? Also check wg rod adjustment. Possible causes for overboost

Check adjustment and check fuel system next

Re: Teal Typhoon 1702

Do you think the over boost could be vac. Related or something to do with the boost solenoid on turbo?

Could be a dry out cracked line.

Also, from sitting the wastegate could get rusty and hard to move or possibly stick? Causing a over boost. Could possibly try observing movement when vehicle is cold. I can't remember if your able to move it with hand..push on it but you could start there.

Not sure if you tackled it already but I'd pop in a new fuel filter.

I forgot that was other thing I will try this weekend is the inner tube test. All the lines look original so it wouldn't suprise me a vac leak. I'm just trying one step at a time in this, got no rush since winter is here sadly
