Re: Steering shaft

No they do not work on a 2nd gen. I experimented making these by chopping off the end of the stock 2nd gen shaft and welding on a lower u-joint end but the only way to make it strong enough is to require the steering wheel to be removed and straigtened. Otherwise I did not trust the strength if your power steering goes out. (not to mention the liability questions)

Re: Steering shaft

There goes that idea. The rag joint in my dad's s10 has a ton of play and I would rather not put a stock style back in there. Guess I will have to cruise over to the s10boards and see what they do.

If you want I can send you what I made. (or the parts to make one)... I put one in my dad's s-10 as well and just straightened the steering wheel...

On the s-10 boards they cut off part of the steering shaft and onstall one of these...

Re: Steering shaft

I currently have 4 shafts available. One of which is a solid shaft with no rubber portion on the upper end.

Re: Steering shaft

:D :2cents: The new steering shaft is installed. What a difference in handling. For years I have been asking alignment shops to tighten up the steering, I won't be asking that anymore. I don't have to chase it anymore and there isn't any added vibration. If anyone has been thinking about doing this mod to their SyTy, do it, you won't regret it. Thanks a lot Aaron.

Now if I could get a free install along with the upgraded shaft would be sweet!!! :rotf:

I can't wait to do this to mine as well!!!

Re: Steering shaft

steering shaft does wonders for firming up the feel of the truck. installed mine last week. just curious about safety ( AFTER I installed it...go figure) ......doesnt have the provisions for the bolt to go through the shaft comming out of the firewall. it just clamps on. so if the nut were to loosen up, the bolt would still hold it onto the steering wheel shaft itself. I would be afraid of that comming loose being that it just clamps on now, even know i used lock-tite....any thoughts on this?

Re: Steering shaft

I have never seen a loose one on the jeeps that I pull them out of and note of them have bolts through the steering shaft. Plus the shaft would have to work its way down quite a ways beofre it came loose.

I thought it was a given that you would use locktite on the bolts especially with anything steering related. I will definately reiterate this!!!

P.S. Ry - Free install is not an option... ya lazy bum...

Re: Steering shaft

I dont use lock-tite. Maybe I should but for as big of a pain as it is just to get the damn thing on I say what for? That and the bolt always needs to be turned pretty hard to tighten. Maybe its just mine though. Hey Aaron, do you know if the u-joints in these are replaceable? Mine are going bad (only my truck I swear). I did not buy mine form yours, I got it at a yard here, I just thought you might know a place to get htem if possible.

Re: Steering shaft

there are some numbers on the ujoints but only on some units. They are cheap enough that I would probably just replace it. Pm me and I will send you one cheaper than it would be messing with the ujoints and finding them... Kinda a pay-it-forward thing for those of us with cursed trucks...

Tim,

Please contact CBSA at 1800 461-9999 or fax them at 1800 959-2036

I can NOT pickup the power mirrors you sold me because of the wrong value state.
I paid $75.00 plus shipping customs are holding the mirrors till you the seller contact them.

If I don't hear from you by Friday I will paypal reverse the charges as I DO NOT have the item order.

Re: Steering shaft

I attempted to call the 1800 461 9999 number but it is unreachable from my calling area... Is there a US # I will also attempt to fax them tomorrow to address the typo on the customs form.

PS. I still have 3 of these shafts ready to go!!!
