Been collecting parts for awhile now. Time to get started.

Jeff Taylor Performance performed the machine work.

I want one! If you make two then you can share...and it is the time of the season to share :)

Re: Starting My engine build!

If I was standing to your right (the side where your thunb is) and looking at the grinding wheel at a perpendicular angle, is the wheel spinning clockwise or counter cw?

Counterclockwise. You should file towards inside of ring and also file off any ridges that form on the edges.

Re: Starting My engine build!

Hope it turns out well Six...Good luck.... I have a few questions you may be able to help me with...I have a blown motor and will be needing a block which from what I read is the same core as a regular Jimmy 4.3. The manual says that the crank, cam, rods, pistons, caps, heads and valve train are different. the performance machine shop is telling me that just the pistons and rods are different... I am trying to locate after market parts that meets or exceeds the stock parts...I can't even find a hardened crankshaft...If you have any information please repost

thanks

Re: Starting My engine build!

Got a little more done today.

Crankshaft set in and torqued down. Crankshaft was switched from external balanced to internal. Bearing clearances are between.001 & .0015. Thrust bearing to crank clearance is .0015.

Jeremy, what is your build going to consist of in the long run? What turbo etc..

Re: Starting My engine build!

Just a thought, according to JE pistons, gapless or total seal rings should NOT be used in boost app. They say that boost pressure can build between top and 2nd rings cusing the top ring land to break.
Also the 2nd ring gap should be bigger than the top. Top .020 second .022

These are not Totalseal gapless rings. They are traditional gap rings. As far as the 1st & 2nd ring gap, I am following ring manufacture (toatal seal) recommendations. Which for boosted applications are bore (4.030)x .0055 for top ring and bore x .0035 for 2nd.
