Scanmaster SYTY

I think we have a good chance at getting these made for our trucks. 8)
Here is a copy of an email I got back from Bob Bailey...

Subject: Re: Scanmaster for Syclone/Typhoon

I have discussed this with several guys over the past couple years.

It's certainly possible, but every time we try to organize the
group buy necessary to kick the project off there never seems
to be a large enough group.

I do want to get a Scanmaster SyTy working this summer, the
Buick Bowling Green event is coming up and has me pretty busy
getting ready. After BG there may be some time available to
do a prototype.

We would then have to do some in vehicle testing, which is
where I would need your help.

I also need access to a SyTy shop manual so I can wire up
an ECM on my test bench.

I will drop you a line when I have some news.

Bob

I will be in contact with Bob, and offered my truck to use for the prototype.
Anyone got a manual to donate?

For whatever reason the previous attempts to get this done, fell through, lets not worry about it. I don't want this thread to go that way. Hopefully we will have some significant interest in these now.

So what do you guys think?

Scott

Do it... Ron doesn't seem to have the time to get his going.

If all he needs are the ECM pin outs, I can get him those....

This has a lot of information...

http://members.aol.com/InjuneerZZ/ScanMast.htm

You won't really find anything in the syty archives about this, other than
why hasn't one ever been made. :(

I didn't ask about the price, I'll bet its gonna be around $300.

Surprized only a couple people interested at this point. :-?

A tool like this is something we *should* all have. Its only now that we might actually have the opportunity to get one made. We don't need to compare this to Datamaster, diacom, because how many of you actually start up that program every time you leave the driveway. This is something we can always be looking at driving down the road. You'll start seeing symptoms of problems creeping up, learning what all the data means, and since it will always be at your fingertips you'll become more familiar with it.
Our trucks will run better, and we will know more about how to isolate and troubleshoot when problems arise.
Ok , wanna know the real reason I want it... because I want to turn up the boost and always be watching for knock :D

Anyway.
Email me if you have any questions, and I'll try to get answers.

I would be interested in this if the price is around $300. I think I saw the buick version is available at ramchargers for $249. I like the idea of not having to keep a laptop in the truck all the time.

It'd be nice to have Bob or whoever makes one utilize the added features we've thrown in the chips - if you have a wideband 02, it could display ACTUAL AFR - if you have a 3 bar setup, it'd display corrected values, etc.

I just emailed Bob, so we could get some more information.
I asked him about the price. I also want to know if there
will be minimum # of orders to start this. I want to get as much
information here right away so there are no disapointments along
the way.

Also, I am trying to narrow down some dates of when we might see
this start up. I made mention that if we could have a prototype done
by the end of July, then I could have it on display at the NATS.

I will keep you all informed. Please ask any questions in this thread as we don't have any topics on scanmaster, and this could be a good start.

 I was thinking about the wb thing...just didn't know if that could be included or not. Don't want to influence any piracy.

..

I'm *IN*. That's exactly what I'd want, I hate having to hold the damn laptop in the seat while tuning, it would be great to have something always sitting there in the dash somewhere.

I'd vote for adding in the WB02 abilities and 3 bar conversion as well. If we're going to do it, we should have it done right ;-)

This is a couple replies from Bob...

I feel that 30 guys are needed to kick this off.

July is a possibility. I'll try to get it squeezed in
to the schedule.

I need the wiring for the ECM, most important are:
ign and battery inputs and grounds
serial data
TPS and MAP
RPM/distributor signal

Bob

-------

Scanmasters have always been 249.00 thru Ramchargers.

Ramchargers has the distribution rights to all the Scanmasters.

A group purchase could be set up assuming that one becomes available
and enough guys sign up....again, thru Ramchargers.

On the schematics, I need the 5volt feed to the TPS and MAP also.

Bob

As for the WB 02 and 3 bar, the answer is YES! 8)

BG- Can you get the above information?

So here it is, and we need 30 people. Is this a possibility, because so far we only have 8, if all who have replied are in? :-? Maybe we could get some more input from other BB members. Is this thing worth doing?

Who wants to get started on the diy WB project? There is a guy by the name Steve C that sells the parts kits. We would need someone that could put these together for those of us who can't. Any volunteers?
Please check this out.... www.diy-wb.com

Thanks,

I should have the scans tomorrow (if I remember to bring my manual to work) and I'll post them, so Bob can get them easily.

Also, here's a plan of attack for you - get a bunch of people interested, then, if that isn't enough for 30 people, call Jerry McCoy. I'm sure he'll post up for the remainder.

I'll talk to Jerry about it next chance I get.

I would be interested, I like the idea of not having to have a laptop especially since my brother hates it when I constantly take his. Hope this gets going.

The "extra features"... Is that something that you either get or don't get? Or would the Scanmaster detect/be switchable for these options? I'd like to have the advanced features, but I'd like to be able to use it on my truck in stock form too (as I'm not sure how much I'll be doing to it or how soon).

http://www.buickgn.com/enginecontrol.htm has some stuff on Scanmaster, FYI. Here is Ramchargers.com's page for the Buick one.

And getting ahead of things here, anyone thought of a good custom mounting system for it?

In the 8192 baud scanmaster there are 2 dip switches that can be used for
feature selection.

Alternatively, we can perform some sanity checks on the data
to determine whats coming thru in the datastream.

In the Grand Nationals we use some unassigned bits in the datastream
to indicate to the scantool that some optional data is present.

Plenty of ways to skin this particular cat.

I'd also like some suggestions on a good custom mounting kit. Somewhere in the line of sight while driving if possible. 8)

We have 10 people as of now. Unless you want one BG, that would make 11.

Couple people emailed me off the syty list.

If this thing is like datamaster and does not require a laptop then I am in. I like the whole 27-7 avail of the unit on the dash. and for the price, that is equivalent to datamaster and a used laptop so I dont mind.

I take it Scanmaster will not have datalogging capabilities? I have MPSI, which there was a GP on them a few years ago, and it is a plug-n-go. It also displays all of the values that DM and Diacom displays. I think I paid $75 for it. The only time I use it is for a quick reading of some values. I mostly use DM, or Diacom for the Datalogging capabilities for WOT runs.

I wonder if they still make MPSI?
