rear hatch problems

The dreaded rear hatch problems are plaguing my Ty. The solenoid pops but wont open the rear window. It doesn't matter if the truck is running or not the pita wont open. I've installed new hatch struts, tried adjusting the lock thing on the gate and nothing. I have the tailgate plastic off so I can get to everything. Can anyone help me? I've heard of people installing heavier gauge wire and stuff but I can't find a how-to and I don't want to mess any wiring up. I have tried searching but have not gotten anywhere on this but would like to fix it before spring.

Re: rear hatch problems

That sounds like you need a different solenoid my was doing the same thing .Look at top of solenoid holes on top put oil in holes at least a few drops then work solenoid.did you check voltage at solenoid?

Korey,I haven't messed with one in years, but whatever way adjusting the solenoid up/down so it tightens the cable up is what works.

There are 2 bolts, figure it out.

Re: rear hatch problems

Mine will try to pop the rear glass....sometimes it's works....sometimes it doesn't.... I'll check out the ground deal when it's warmer here in mn....I just swapped plug wires on my bonneville with it being -5 at night with alitttle breeze.....not too bad if your wearing a hoody...rubber gloves and mechanics gloves at the same time.

Thanks for the nugget of great info davep.! Have a good weekend!

Re: rear hatch problems

Have some one inside the truck push on the gate or window, if you cant get inside.

I was able to get my dad to crawl into the truck ( loaded and chained on a trailer about 4 feet up ).. And he told me... All he did was push and it opened. I kept hearing the click or pop.. And nothing. I went out and bought a brand new switch too . when the gate was open I just put a small amount of lithium grease on the areas it looked the needed. I closed the gate haven't opens the truck in about 2 weeks or re-tried to open it.

Re: rear hatch problems

Well I fixed it for now. I cleaned the tailgate ground, put some oil in the solenoid and adjusted the window latch. Opens great now so far just 1 press of the button and it opens I hope it stays like that and will continue to work

Re: rear hatch problems

Interesting that this thread popped up. My ty will only pop the glass from the remote. 1st time every time. If I push the button on the dash you hear it pop but the glass wont open no matter how many times its pushed. Recently had the dash apart and I jumpered the switch thinking that maybe resistance had built up, but no go.

Re: rear hatch problems

I tested mine today after greasing.

With the truck not running and negative temps at night the hatch button worked.

I could not get it to pop first, because I removed the dome fuse.. For some reason my interior light stays on with door open/door closed. But the hatch button is def. A part of the dome light circuit. I am Going to have to fix the dome light on constant. I forget the reason why it could be on all the time but it will eventually come to me.

Could be the door jam switch stuck or broke. I think there like 20 Bucks new or get one from the junkyard
