Possibly fouled plugs or too small of a gap? Runs wierd stll.

Soo i finally have 60# injectors in this Syclone and it runs poorly still, but a little better than when i had 50# in it. I forgot what plugs the owner had me put in it, legit ones for sure. They are gapped at .024 or .028 i honestly forgot, but its one of those two numbers, i wanna say .024

Its never ran correctly after i installed a bunch of parts on it, always has ran PIG rich based off the wide band readings. Possibly fouled the plugs over time of me trouble shooting it, trying to get it to run correctly.
It runs rough as hell at idle, doesnt seem like its hitting on all cylinders. At part throttle it will rev up smoothly like it should, but anything more than about 40% throttle it falls on its face and will bog itself out like it cant fire the cylinders properly. Soo im guessing the fuel is drowning out the spark due to a combination of a small gap and possibly fouled as well.

-Could a weak coil cause these symptoms? How can i check the coil?
-Anyone else have similar issues with there trucks with fouled or improperly gapped plugs?

Heres a link to the previous issues i had with this truck. thanks

Re: Possibly fouled plugs or too small of a gap? Runs wierd stll.

plugs were NGK V-power UR6's gapped at .024

I pulled em and put some NGK generic brand new ones in at .040 gap and the problems didnt change one bit.

Could the MAP sensor be bad?

The truck at idle literally blows black smoke like a diesel truck. Wide band is showing 10.8-11.2 AFR while at idle, fuel pressure is at 38psi at idle, ive tried lowering it to 20psi and it changes nothing.

Pulled the generic brand plugs, because you will be chasing atleast two problems.

I see you put in 60# injectors, do have a 60# chip?

chip is from someone on here with the last name "Waller" if i remember correctly. Yes the chip was burned for those injectors and a 3 BAR MAP. I had swapped in my NA ls1 #30's just for the hell of it and it ran the best its ever have since ive been trouble shooting it. I could actually drive the thing without making boost around the block around the corner and back with no worries. That was a while ago, the #60s are in it currently. The truck has a brand new silicone vac line setup on it and has been checked countless times on various occasions.

-Im going to get a timing light next to verify its spot on.
-Is there anyway i can OHM out the MAP to make sure its not messed up?
-Would it run any different if the chip was for a 3 BAR MAP and somehow the one i have installed is a 2 BAR MAP?

If you have a 2 bar map, sensor the stock boost/vacuum guage would read in the middle of the guage with the ignition on, engine off. With a 3 bar map it will read about 1/3 of the way into vacuum.

I haven't seen a map sensor fail, I would guess if it fails it would be stuck at a value or reading high or low.. You should see the stock vacuum/boost guage be about 2/3 of so into the vacuum section, if its in the right area and moves with engine load, I would assume its correct.

Does your Fuel Pressure drop at idle at 9-10 psi with the vacuum lines attached (vs checking the FP with the vacuum line disconnected and plugged)

I will check the gauge tomorrow, i got off work late today. As for pulling the vac line to the FPR, i havnt tried that yet. Like i said, i lowered the fuel pressure to 20psi just trying to get a different response from the engine. It didnt change anything.

Years ago, my first Ty started running like ass. CEL said tps, I think? Replaced that and still asslike. Then CEL said map sensor. Replaced and all was well. Are you getting any codes? FPR failure?

No codes at all. Ive been thinking about the TPS and MAP being a possible culprit based on other vehicles ive owned and similar symptoms. The truck ran good before i added all these parts. Soo now i have to go through one by one and eliminate each possibility. The thing is, i have two chips, one that came with the "setup" and the Waller chip. The truck runs a little better when the chip that came with the "setup" IE, turbo,MAP,DP,FMIC,injectors/ETC. Soo this somewhat tells me that the tune/chip might not be to blame.

Brand new FPR for the record, a nice billet adjustable one. Brand new 255 walbro as well.

Does it run bad when you first start up or when it reaches full temp?

horrible when cold and then it gets marginally better after its warmed up. It will actually idle on its own after its warm. Sounds like it has a cam in it, from running soo rish. Stock cam for the record, lol.

What are 'all these parts' that you added?

You can look at a scan tool and determine whether or not the TPS or MAP sensor is going.

Was it tuned for the parts you added to the truck? I'm with cloneman, sounds like you threw parts at the truck but it wasn't tuned accordingly. I know you mentioned the truck has a Waller chip and it ran fine before you started changing parts (like injectors)? If the tune wasn't changed i.e. The chip reburned the truck WILL run like ass. 9 out 10 times if you start changing parts and it won't run properly, its the tune not the parts.

I have a link in the first post of this thread that will direct you to the list of mods i had installed. Im almost willing to bet the house on the TPS. One thing i noticed is that it wont rev past 4k Rpm. If a faulty TPS is reading 60% throttle at idle, it would cause these types of conditions. in theory of course, lol.

heres the thing, the group of parts i installed all came from the same guy that suposedly came off a 100% legit running truck. He of course provided the chip that corrosponded to all those mods i installed. Soo in thoery there shouldnt be any reason why it wouldnt run correctly if the seller De-modded his truck. Then we reinstalled all those mods with chip to another stock truck. -in thoery-

Soo since the install of everything, and with the truck running poorly. we decided to have waller burn an entirely new and different chip pertaining to the exact mods this truck. Just to eliminate any possibilities of something not matching/etc. My friend said waller tested the chip and it was good to go on his end. It was sent to me and this problem still exists.

The owner was supposed to bring a datamaster on several different occasions and still hasnt yet. Which would have been nice about 6 months ago, ha.

Soo, with the ignition on, engine off, the needle on the OEM boost/vac gauge is about 1/2 way through the sweep of the boost range... COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM? oh man im getting excited!

Code what?
Re: Possibly fouled plugs or too small of a gap? Runs wierd stll.

2 bar map, would be an educated guess. Somthing that should have been checked first. Anyone that has handled a two bar and three bar chip can tell by looking at the two which one is which. Adding insult to injury using that chip.

Re: Possibly fouled plugs or too small of a gap? Runs wierd stll.

I used to build 9 sec hondas (yes i admitted that) and my Rx7 will knock the dick off any sy/ty on this board. These trucks are poorly designed pieces of shit plain and simple. My friend gave me parts to install and im fairly sure he didnt make sure that they all will work together correctly. He's blown up more Sy/TY's then i can count due to improper setups so i decided to help and get him on the right path.

Sounds like you sure are on the right path.........

BTW, do you know the differance between OBD1 and OBD2?
