Possible IC leak

Re: Possible IC leak

You really are new at this, aren't you? The intercooler system is totally seperate from the engine coolant system.

Although it is not likely, you might want to check your engine oil, just to make sure the coolant isn't getting in there.

You said so yourself, two separate systems. And after you called someone new for suggesting the heater core you suggest to check the engine oil for water? How would the IC coolant get there? :dunno: Just thought it was funny. :rotf:

Re: Possible IC leak

It "could" leak into the engine. A bad leak like he has, it runs down on top of the pistons and then into the oil. While its cold/sitting for a while.

EDIT: But i do think it would run down into the turbo first.

I agree it could be possible but that severe of a leak would be noticed before it made it to the engine oil. Like you said, turbo is probably where it would go considering the shape of the upper. It would drain to the turbo since the inlet is lower than the outlet to the engine. Would it hurt to check? Absolutely not.

I didn't notice mine was leaking until I removed the IC and saw the green throttle body. Mine had a pin hole due to my dumbass using the wrong radiator flush. Some radiator flush is muriatic acid (hydrochloric) and it does a number on aluminum. I figured a quick flush won't hurt anything. WRONG.

Re: Possible IC leak

I've taken it off and looked in it and filled it up and looked for it to come into the air chamber but I saw nothing although it wasn't sucking or blowing so that may be the difference. The butterfly area of the tb was dirty but not sure it was from coolant. Is there an advantage of going with an air to air intercooler?

Re: Possible IC leak

With A/A you'll have a lot more room under the hood plus relatively more stable intake temps as the stock W/A gets heat soaked
