Photoshopped picture?

Re: Photoshopped picture?

So I did some work installing the WBO2. I ended up going with the PLX unit. I didn't realize this but you are supposed to mount the sensor ~36" downstream of turbo and at a 15 degree angle instead of perpendicular to the exhaust flow. The bungs that I had pre-welded into my downpipe were way too close to the turbo and not at the 15 degree angle..

So here is my new location with the proper 15 degree angle:

I finally finished my hydroboost lines.. I'm happy to report that the for Rack and Pinion unit seems to work perfectly with the S10 power steering pump and Astro Van Hydroboost unit.. :)

So I have a bit on an exhaust leak issue that you can see here:

When I welded my manifolds I bolted them to an old head hoping that would prevent warping.. It didn't.... So after I welded them I tried to re-surface them on this belt sander:

That seemed to work OK.. If you lay them on a flat surface they appear to sit flat but obviously they still leak..

I hate exhaust leaks and will not leave it this way... The passenger side seems to be sealed up well.. The drivers side leaks. What do you guys suggest I do?

a) Should I spend more time on the belt sander?
b) Spend more time on the sander and use gaskets?
c) Quit being cheap and find a shop that will machine them perfectly flat(I suspect this will cost $150-$200 ish)

Matt, everything else you do is done the proper way. I know it is more costly, but spend the money on getting them planed/decked.

What about some nice thick compress-able gaskets?

Have you had any luck with these? If so do you recall the brand and type? I was afraid that the increased back-pressure from a turbo application may blow gaskets apart..??

Re: Photoshopped picture?

So Keith was kind enough to put together a start-up-bin for me and now he has been helping me get the tune dialed in. I was actually able to pull it outside today and Keith and I spent a couple of hours trying to dial the tune in a bit closer. We learned that tuning from afar using VNC can be painful!

Re: Photoshopped picture?

that is pretty funny, he is connected via vnc to your laptop which has wireless connectivity to your house..

so nerdy, yet so cool.

Re: Photoshopped picture?

That must have had a little latency.

A little latency...more like a lot. I had to have Matt move some things around for me because the connection was slooooow. It worked, but was painfully slow like Matt said. He has a good enough tune to idle good and putt around if need be. It is really much easier in person believe me.

Re: Photoshopped picture?

A little progress has been made.. The electric fan relays are installed and the one fan is wired up to be controlled by the ECM.. I loaded the electric fan settings posted by Paul @ code59.org into my bin so we will see if the fan kicks on the next time I let it heat up.. The front sway bar is back on and I started working on the Turbo to Intake tubing..

The intercooler will go down here in a similar to stock location:

The steel tubing will all get sandblasted and powder coated so it should look OK when finished..
