On the fence, part or sell 92' Ty

As I mentioned in my parts for sale thread, I'm putting My 92 Typhoon, #1770 back to stock. I'm currently torn about whether to sell or part it out. It came out of Florida and the frame is great. The worst thing about the truck is that it is a repaint and it was not done well. It has started to crack and peel in several different places from the summer heat and it needs done right. There is some light rust, but taking care of the paint would solve 99% of the body rust. It was stored both inside and outside during the time that I owned it. I would have preferred inside but I could not block the hoist in my Dad's shop. The truck is dirty from being outside, my dad mowed around it and blew grass clippings all over.

The motor is out of another truck with about 115k miles on it. It got fresh bearings, a timing chain and new lifters before going in. I had trouble with an oscillating idle and no start in cold weather (but it would start right up in the spring). I chased vacuum leaks and other ghost issues but finally threw in the towel. Recently, when pulling off the downpipe I found a couple of exhaust leaks upstream of the O2 sensor that were likely culprits of the unsteady idle. I would keep at it but I'm losing my storage space and will have nowhere to work on it once my dad's property sells.

All the cladding is included but there are some cracks, most notably the DS rocker is cracked clear through. The tabs on the drivers side piece behind the door broke off but could be repaired. Other cladding pieces on the truck are almost perfect. I have the drivers side front arch off the truck and it has one broken tab.

-Clear title in hand
-Interior is good, except for cracks in the dash
-New GM replacement trans about 30k miles ago
-New radiator
-New NOS throttle body
-silicone vacuum lines
-New plug wires

Needs:
-A bath
-Stock torque converter (my dad threw it out when cleaning up his shop)
-Paint
-2 front tires
-Could use a windshield (rock chips)
-Cat and Exhaust
-Stock turbo has some play, I have a rebuild kit for it
-Transfer case has a very slight bind at full turn, I have a new chain that would likely solve the issue
-transmission lines
-Pass side power window motor (I have a new one)
-AC recharged
-Rear window struts

I'm thinking around $4,500 as it sits. I know it's worth more in parts but I don't want to take a solid truck off the road.

The primer did a good job but the roof started to rust in the past 6 months or so.

Current Status of the engine bay. Stock intercooler and stock turbo need to go back in.

I also have the $1,300 dealer receipt from the transmission.

Seats are in good shape. They are a little dried out but not bad.
I replaced the steering wheel with one from a low mileage truck, the original was cracked from the sun at the 12 o'clock position.

Here is the drivers side rocker.

The passenger's side rocker.

Here is a short video driving with the 60-1 turbo and Greddy BOV.

Re: On the fence, part or sell 92' Ty

My experience parting out a Syclone is that I would not do it unless I was going to make atleast $3k parting out the truck vs what you could sell it for. This also assumes you have the time to devote to it. Pulling the truck apart is the easy part, answering emails, shipping request and shipping parts take up a lot of time. I probably spent 40 hours working on the truck & 120 hours with shipping, emails, & quotes. For someone else it might be worthwhile to do it for less if they were unemployed or a difficult financial situation. Most of the time a roller project truck is probably worth while to just sell it at market price. i.e. selling it for $4k vs. parting it out for $6k.

Just sell it, it doesnt look like a rust bucket so why part it out?

Alright, the stock torque converter has been found!

I would take $4,250 for it as it sits. I may start to put it back together with stock parts. The price may go up slightly as it gets put back to a drivable config.
