Need some DataMaster Translation Help

My truck breaks up and stumbles real bad between 3000-3700 rpms and below 2300 rpms. I finally got my datamaster hooked up and logged a few different runs. The only thing I see is a huge dip in the mV to the O2 sensor which also gives me a lean reading on my air/fuel gauge. At 2950 RPMS the mV at the O2 are around 900 and then the immediately drop to about 40 at 3000rpms. The reading flutters between 16and 60 until 3700rpms and jumps right back to the 900 range. The truck sputters along with the low O2 reading and clears right up with the higher reading. I can e-mail my data files for another opinion, but any ideas?? Timing and throttle position don't change and neither does the pulse rate of the injectors. any help??

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

Its odd that the O2 voltage would do that. How old is the sensor?

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

the sensor is brand new.... just replaced it. The old one did the same thing, so I assumed that was my problem. I will e-mail my datalog files out shortly.

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

Yes, the mods are listed in my sig. I am running 45psi base pressure with the vacuum disconnected from the fuel reg. The truck breaks up really bad 3000~3500 and runs rough at certain cruising speeds around 1800-2100. Like I said, only thing that showed anything in those RPM's is the o2 reading. It almost feels like the truck runs out of fuel. Any more info would be great. I am new to Typhoon tuning, but not typhoon mechanics. Thanks

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

wow... I have yet to receive any sort of help on this forum on this issue. Everything I ask, people either have no clue or just don't want to offer any advice. I am coming to the understanding that apparently nobody knows a thing about troubleshooting these things.... Its been since feb. and this thing is still running like sh*t and everything has been changed....

Wade is helping you,and that's GOOD.I will take a look at it when I get home from work tonight (midnight)

There are quite a few guys in NJ that should be able to help out in person.

EDIT: You are only making 7 lbs of boost WOT.That is why your truck is slow.

You ought to be glad that anybody is willing to give you a helping hand.I'm sure that if you did some research and acclimated yourself on what to look for, you'd be better off.

Your truck is making 7(!) lbs of boost.Do you not see that??

You are ultimately responsible for your trucks performance, diagnostics, ect. It's like a little baby that you have got to teach, love, and understand.
If there is a problem, you need to diagnose it.If the baby is crying, there is a reason. You need to know what to look for, know how to react, and understand how, what, where and why.

Pretty much every Sy/Ty fact known to man is readilly available for the taking. The complex chip tuning issues can be solved by a few guys on here.Basic information and knowledge is free.Just look around.

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

I know a few things about tuning, but I dont have datamaster, so I cant view your files. Try some other forums that deal with tuning, like Thirdgen.org (DIY-prom section). You can learn ALOT by just reading. Not everything there will pretain to our ECM's, so take that into consideration. Anything that says 749' or $58 will apply directly, but there are alot of tables that are virtually the same from other ECM's. Translating the data is pretty universal, although turbo/SC apps usually like less timing and more fuel than a natually aspirated car. The problem is that there is no *correct* nuber for anything. Every car/truck is different, even if they are built the same. Thats why one tune doesnt work for everyone, and why OEM ECM's "learn". Its a steep learning curve, evn more so when your trying to fix something broken but its very rewarding when you put it all together and get it all working.

Yeah I know about the 7psi of boost.... the turbo is brand new and used to be able to make 21psi no problem. The turbo boost has slowly been falling off. That is a whole other issue that I will worry about once I get the truck running correctly. I don't need to be running 18psi while the truck is breaking up and stumbling. I have no clue yet as to why the turbo wont boost. I even disconected the feed line to the wastegate and it still only maxed out about 7-10psi. I will worry about that at a later point in time....

I think your timing may be off.It shouldn't be running 18.6 degrees advance when you go WOT. Does the chip ever show spark retard? The reason I ask is because BG accidently sent out some chips with the spark retard disabled. .

As for the boost, have you ruled out a boost leak?

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

Check your plug wires, I had a similar problem, and the boots on my plugs were melting due to the intense heat next to the downpipe and turbo. :2cents:

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

According to todd at SyTy chips the timing is actually suposed to 17degrees at WOT. 29-31 deg at idle. I am convinced its a fuel issue not ignition. The truck shows lean on the EGT and A/F gauge as well as the O2 reading on the Data Log. It is only does it certain RPM's....

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

IMO i would try a phil long chip or a different one other than the ultimate, do you have any exhaust leaks, internal/external wastegate? ultimate should disable o2 duel control, do you have a wideband?

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

Phil Long doesn't have any 50# calibrations I tried him first. I have tried 2 different ultimate chips and display boards. I have tried 2 different brand new 3 bar maps, the fuel reg is brand new. I don't hear any exhaust leaks, the turbo is internal wastegate, and everything appears to be tight. I have replaced all the silicone connections on the intercooler, and I have have even disconected the feed to the wastegate ..... will not make boost beyond 10lbs. Turbo is new, no shaft play, turbine spins free. I have no way of really checking for a boost leak but I can't see anything obvious.....

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

Another thing I forget to mention. Truck runs perfect when first started. As it gets hotter outside and hotter under the hood the worse in runs. i don't know if that will provide any clues??

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

new ignition module? usually when truck acts up when getting hotter it would point to ignition or a bad ecm.

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

I changed the Ign. mod a few weeks ago... did nothing. I don't have another ECU to try but it would be worth a shot.

Re: Need some DataMaster Translation Help

this may be a long shot but I remember seeing somewhere on here that people had problems with the springs (I think it was in the wg) that they had to change out to make more boost, but like I said its just an idea. are you running lower fuel pressure (than stock) b/c of the 50# injectors?
