The fact that the spark plug is physically damaged is interesting. I don't think it is possible for the piston to hit the spark plug, even with a broken/bent rod, unless the piston itself is broken. It doesn't look like the spark plugs are the wrong length. Probably something is banging around in the combustion chamber. No matter, the place to start is to pull the heads. This is not difficult for any good shop to do. Or you can learn to do it yourself. The money you save will pay for a set of tools, and you will learn a lot. Surely you have a friend somewhere nearby that you can lean on.
Be aware though, this is a slippery slope. Once you have the heads off, it is only a few more bolts to pull the whole engine. The engine hoist is only a couple hundred dollars at Harbor Freight. With the engine out, it is just a few more bolts to pull the transmission, might as well go through it too....
