i passed out while playing wiffleball, and i blacked out while talking to scott from GMHTP..
Other than that I didn't have any major alcohol related issues.

So how many SyTy events have you attended in your 6 months of ownership?
And how many diehard SyTy enthusiasts have you polled that do not genuinely care?
I have received numerous PMs asking who the hell you think you are that you know so much for only being here for a few monthhs and attended one event.
I think all of you are making some gross assumptions, but I am just going to dimiss myself from this thread any longer b/c it is obviuous it is based purely on opinionated statements and not facts.

Well after reading Joshs post I must say I dont blame him, however at the same time it goes back to the saying of "dont let one bad apple spoiling the bunch" kinda deal. I cant find fault in anything that Josh said really except that I think his expectations on the racing are keeping him from having a good time.
I have enjoyed watching Denny, Matt, Tony, Pete, Ryan, ect ect run at the Nats over the past 4 years that Ive attended, but in reality, yes.....the "racing" is only 1 part of what makes the "SyTy Nationals". Nationals does not mean "racing", Nationals means an event involving participants from all parts of a nation.
I dont think its ever been promoted as the end all be all of racing events and honestly Id be bored if it was. I look forward to meeting new owners, spending time with the owners I already know and only get to see once a year, hanging out at the track and seeing who lays down what kind of numbers and inbetween the dyno, the show and shine and wrenching, I just like to hang out and BS and just chat.
At the moment my truck is nowhere near being any "top dog", but I hope to make that change over the next 2 years, but even still I drove my turbo turd 1200 miles, broke it again before I even got there and I still raced the crap out of it, knowing I wasnt gonna lay down anything near my best time, just going for broke....literally. Not only that but I went on to do the Grand Prix and came in 2nd place to the least likely vehicle to run in that type of event, Dennys Syclone. Not to say it would never happen, but I doubt anyone will ever see any of the other "top dogs" do that. That was worth the price of admission right there and if I was gonna lose to anyone, Im glad it was him.
The point of all this is, Nats is what you make of it, not just whats written on the paper.
Josh, if its worth anything to you, I for one apologize to you and your girlfriend for any harsh language you had to encounter, as Im just as guilty as anyone else there for not having done or said anything sooner and I hope that you will reconsider over the next 11 months and come back either with or without your truck, but you know we'd all like it to be with.

well in response to tooky's post.....i partially agree. I'm a pretty heavy drinker as a few people know from hanging out w/ me in non syty related instances. I've been tailgating the last 10 years of my life...so plop me into a parking lot with a bunch of friendly people....and i start to feel the urge to drink.
I personally was getting pretty upset w/ the sermon, especially when he yelled at the two people walking through the crowd - i didn't even realize it was tooky at that point becuase i myself was drunk. People even asked me why i was being so quiet but i just kept to myself at that point and watched.
I know i personally love to act immature when i get a chance to. Its a nice change from the drudgery or working all week. I, like smaug, was on my first vacation for a long time...and flew out to KC in between other travelling trips for work. I'm all for the better of the event. My personal goal is to bring SOME vehicle - syty or not, to a nats - becuase then i'll won't be able to just sit around and drink all day. I prolly drank about the most of anyone the weekend, but i think / hope i didn't piss anyone off. If i did, all I ask is that person or those people that i pissed off contact me on or off the board so that i can know what i did and make amends for it.
Again...i bet had it not rained, and we would have had parking lot contests, people wouldn't have drank so much. But everyone was full of energy and excited about being around all the trucks, yet had nothing to do but stand still and drink.
I had fun away from the crowd though too....brunch w/ the keller clan was great, the trip the the track w/ will was histerical, gambling w/ smaug and sorta w/ ted was good times, and i had a great 3 way conversation w/ jason and his girlfriend :lol:
Anyway...thats my rant. If i pissed anyone off let me know. But my guess is that i won't drink much less at the next nats i go to...unless i can actually get my truck out there which we'll see what the chances are of that :rotf:

I have attended two SyTy specific events. Haven't polled anyone....if you'll read the responses to this thread and others, it precludes the necessity of a poll. HAHA, anyone can PM me just as easily as they alledgedly PM'd you unless their timid. I obviously got your goad by suggesting the NATS need a relook and you took it personal resorting to defacing me behind the masquerade of anonymous inquirers who are trying to figure out who I am. Exercise some maturity PLEEEEEEEZE. Anyone can contact me at any time and I will be happy to converse with them. My email address is shaun.trescott@us.army.mil and my phone number is 931-249-7656. Its a bunch none the less. So, the moral of the story is if you criticize and want to take it all over like its a one man job people are gonna get upset. All this BS over a location :tdown: You know here where I live the city shoots off the fireworks for the public and we have about 5K or so people come to one of the beach areas and also most of HWY 69 stops to watch. One time of the year where people can get away from their everyday lives and relax. They, family types, etc., know that before they make that choice to come here that they are gonna crosss w/people who don't live the same life they do. Now the city has a "family zone" to satisfy those who do not want to be apart of the rest of the festivities. The more I read from this thread thats what it seems like we need at Nats? Yeah some people did get out of hand but it wasn't enough to press charges or anything like that. If this event causes "a person" to feel like the caliber of people that are there are below "a person" then just don't go. Its life! In the real world sh*t is not gonna happen like "a person" want it to all the time and as far as I remember everyone else paid to go to the event, are old enough to do what they want and shouldn't change for any day of the week to make someone think they are something they're not. :2cents:

I did enjoy the event (somewhat) and I REALLY wanted to get out on the track but I need a different vehicle to do that. I brought my 14 y.o. daughter and 12 y.o. son with me so I was somewhat restricted and spent extra time shielding them from some of what was going on. Not blaming anyone...it was my decision but I thought this would be a family oriented event. We cashed in around 10 pm each night so I was oblivious to the other activity that some unfortunately fell privy to. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone there and no-one turned me off. Even Morgan and I warmed up nicely to some's surprise <grin>. I guess I know the NATS could draw more owners but for some reason it doesn't and the common attitude seems to be "So what, this is the NATS and if people want to come, they will" which is 100% true but how about the people that could come but DON'T want to. If turnout has decreased 50%+ over 5 years, that is a sure indication something is amiss. I recently sold my Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo so the clubs I hung out with had a bigger cash pool to make stuff happen and the folks were mid 30's to 70's. My wife, kids and I loved the events. The NATS were good but they can be better.....that's all I am saying. I somewhat know the planning and execution challenges. I was in charge of a 12 member logistical team that moved 26,000 soldiers and all their equipment and 6,800 vehicles to Iraq and back during 2003-2004. My input obviously rubs the grain of some planners so I think I will resort to keep quiet unless asked and support where/when needed. Won't fix anything but at least we can all get along (haha).

If you "cashed" at 10 every night what "extra sheilding" did you have to do. I didn't see Renz running around naked at 3 in the afternoon, no sex in the bushes or a string of obsencities from anyone's mouth. I think your being overly critical of this event. What, did the Porsche club have pony rides for your kids? Put your negative energy into making this event better and stop whining so much or do as you suggested and keep quiet unless asked. Just my two cents but I get angry when I hear a couple people piss and moan after all the hard work the commitee members put into this event out of the goodness of their hearts. Everyone was asking about GMHTP. Asking if and how many trucks would get into the mag. Look at the Buick Nat's. I think the only reason they are in that mag is because of the racing. Now, its not going to be as good as the Bucik's with our trucks because we dont have as many trucks in the 9's as they do in the 8's
But I highly boubt that the GMHTP people would take pics of a bunch of trucks just sitting in a parking lot and thats all. They would need more then 4 trucks just doing testing run's just to show off. They would need some real racing to get into GMHTP mag. (I could be wrong, but if the GMHTP people on this board would reply and say what they want in their mag, it would be alot better!) This is probably why we never see anything for our trucks in GMHTP as well. I thought about writing to them and asking if they would do a 4.3 build up. But thought it would be a stupid idea.
There should be a good amount of racing at the Nat's. I sure as hell know when I go in 06 I'm going to run my truck more then 2-3 times. And who knows what I'm going to do to my truck between now and then.

My only question is this. If the largest attendance was in 2000 over Labor Day weekend, why did the dates change? I think I remember people saying that they didn't show up in 2000 because they already had other commitments for the holiday weekend, but the fact that more people showed up then anyway would negate that. So why isn't Nats over Labor Day weekend anymore?
