Installed Ultimate & 50# Inj. - now truck barely runs

OK, I'm REALLY pissed off right now. I spent all afternoon installing this Ultimate chip (50# beta 2) and the 50# injectors. Well, I followed the damn instructions to a T and now my truck runs like dog shit :x I had the fuel pressure regulator already set to 50 psi base before installing the new stuff so I figured it would start right up and rock and roll...well, the truck is running pig rich and will not idle at 50 psi. So I backed the FP down to like 35 psi and it will drive, but barely. Basically, it idles OK with low base FP but when I hit the gas off idle, it sputters and bogs all to hell. Yes, I installed the 3 BAR MAP; yes, I trimmed the left plastic clip when seating the Ultimate; yes, I fucking double checked everything. My vacuum is where is always was (18 Hg) so that's not the problem either.

I hooked up Datamaster and set it to 3-bar mode. The software says my truck is in "open loop" mode all the time now...WTF? No DTC errors but something is VERY wrong. I spent $900 on this stuff expecting my truck to run faster and have good street manners and here I am with a truck that ran perfectly before, which now hardly runs at all. My truck was dialed in before I started this install today. I could rip off 0-60 in 4.6 seconds consistently with the G-tech so I know it's tuned properly. Only things I changed today were the injectors and the chip. I'm going to call Mike Lee tomorrow and demand some answers and a quick resolution. If we can't get this sorted out right away, I'm sending this crap back and demanding a refund. I'm not badmouthing anyone at this point but I'm really not impressed with this combo. My knuckles are cut up for nothing to boot...geez :-?

Obviously something is wrong, don't dog the combo & setup. That exact combination is running fine on my Syclone, has passed emissions, starts up and runs fine every day.

Have you read either of my pages which have extensive details on these calibrations??
They mention the fuel pressure setting, they mention the open loop fueling of the chips. Fuel pressure should be like STOCK to start. On version 2, the valet is the only closed loop program. Read up before you start bitching about something else.

http://www.chitownsyty.com/tech/betachip.htm
http://www.chitownsyty.com/tech/50_beta_version_2.htm

I swear I post about 'em every other day.

Do you have a stock chip piggybacked to the Ultimate correctly?

Get some patience and do your homework before you loose your tongue. I may have to put these programs on a beg for them basis, because of people with no patience or know-how using them.

Fuel pressure should be set to 45psi base (with the vacuum line disconnected and plugged)
You will also need a STOCK MEMCAL and chip for it to run correctly.

I have a beta 50# running in my Ty and it idles much better then stock ever did.

I'm not dogging anything man, don't take this personally. Yes, I read your site about 10 times before I bought the stuff from Mike Lee per your recommendation. Again, I followed your instructions perfectly and now I'm stuck with a truck that won't run. How the hell could I have put the chip on wrong? The tabs only go in one way and I'm not getting any DTC errors so what makes you think it's installed incorrectly? Why don't you help me get this resolved instead of pointing me to your website or passing the buck to Mike Lee. I'm really tempted to pull everything back out and send it back. I was really excited about these mods until this afternoon :(

I have a stock MEMCAL (#16164174) and I'm using a brand new 3-Bar MAP (#16040749) so what else could be the problem?

Send it back then, instead of solving whatever problems you are having.

Why do I think you have an installation problem? Because you obviously DID NOT read the instructions, but you say you did.

If you did, why did you set the fuel pressure at 50?
Why were you asking about the open loop programs?

I am offering you useful advice. Regarding the memcal, is it plugged in correctly? Do you know what the correct orientation is?

Do the program ID's show up in your scan tool?

I say send it back now and forget about it, I can't deal with your attitude of "I did everything right, even though I didn't read your pages, refund me my money". I'm open to the prospect there is a chip problem, shit happens. I'm also open to the prospect that you didn't install it correctly, cuz 9 of 10 people calling me or emailing me or posting that they are having problems end up being installation problems.

So settle down, you have 2 options

1- return it, and quit ragging on us like a stupid bitch

2- Change your tampon and figure out your problems

You don't get it dude. I busted my balls all afternoon putting this stuff in and it doesn't work as advertised. If it's something I did wrong, please tell me what it could be. Otherwise, I guess I'm going to have to "undo" everything and put it back to stock 2-bar. In answer to your question, YES, I piggybacked the stock MEMCAL onto the Ultimate and then seated your chip on the board. I have worked in IT for 8 years so I do know how to seat PROMs, RAM chips, CPUs etc. Datamaster showed PROM ID 03971 before the install and now it shows PROM ID 01002. Is this the correct version for a stock motor truck? Maybe Mike sent me the wrong one? I'm out of ideas.

All it takes is a quick phone call or email and i would probably be able to help you. This is the first thing I have seen regarding your install.

The beta v1 had some small issues which were addressed in V2(make sure you have this one, b/c the release was end of july i think). I just installed v2 50# in a local customer truck and he says it idles, drives, and pulls harder then the stock ign v6 chip he had previously.

FYI, I dont make the chips. There is nothing wrong with the chips in general, maybe you have an issue with your particular chip or the install. For you to get on the bulliten board, be a little bitch and whine like some baby to make it sound like I sold you a faulty product is rediculous and is not going to get you anywhere. I have sold many of these chips, and have had nothing but positive results.

Is it that hard to try and contact me so we can work together and fix it? It's probably something simple you overlooked. I guess you want me to come fix it, and prove to everyone here you know absolutely nothing about these trucks.

I get it perfectly fine. You are just being a bit unreasonable.

I work in IT too. If you have a problem with hardware or software do you immediately call and yell at the vendor and tell them you are going to send it back? Do you do any troubleshooting at your end? I do this kind of troubleshooting all day long, I know how to go about it. You are going about it wrong, period. You are acting like a USER, and I know you know what that means.

Sorry, but you have a piss poor attitude. I've had like 5 people ask me in the last hour how I put up with this nonsense, so excuse me if I have some attitude in return. I will help you, hoping that your attitude is only due to being tired after labor on a truck.

You changed injectors, did you pull your upper intake? Is it possible you have a vacuum leak? Is it possible an injector plug isn't seated? Is it possible you may have the wrong size injector? Is it possible a sensor isn't plugged in all the way? Did you check the engraving on the injectors for flow ratings? You have the stock memcal in the chip, do you have it arranged correctly? It is keyed, the key on the memcal will slide into the slot on the Ultimate's board. Read the eprom on the Ultimate for identifying what programs you have. Are you setting any codes? Any data on your scan tool that looks out of the ordinary? Put the key on, link up on the scan tool, and toggle through the programs. See if they match up to the program listings here http://www.chitownsyty.com/tech/50_beta_version_2.htm
The program ID format will read 1002 for a street chip, fueling level 2, 2004 for a race chip, fueling level 4 and so forth...

Sounds like your EGO is getting in the way of sound reasoning. I've wanted to say that for so long.

BTW, nice going in trying to "kill the cash cow", stomping on BG, I would say is not a great idea, it will get you nowhere.

Ah...the elusive RICHME. Jerk who lives in Carson City and never posts anything until someone has problems and then he jumps in with some snide remark. You can come down to Santa Clara anytime buddy and we can do it on my front lawn...big FUCK YOU! Tom Dowd, Mike Bridges, and the rest of the Bay Area Sy/Ty guys are nice people and we all get along just fine. You, on the other hand, seem to have beef with more than a few members on this board. That said, I think you need to just shut your mouth and mind your own business :fist: BTW, how did your Sy/Ty gathering turn out? I heard only like 5 trucks showed up, he he

Nobody stomped on anyone or put anyone down. You haven't seen a piss poor attitude...not even close. I'm just slightly frustrated with this chip and injector install. BUT, I will settle down and assume that we can get this sorted out and all will be good. So can Brian or Mike please tell me if PROM ID 01002 is the correct version for a stock motor Sy with stock turbo, manifolds, DP, internals, etc.?

Yes, I had the upper intake off today and cleaned it thoroughly. The intake runners and the lower manifold had very little to no carbon deposits; probably from the SMC alky plus the fact that I have a low mileage truck. The injectors are in the truck now so I can't tell you what's written on them. They came with a piece of paper that says

"High Performance Fuel Injectors: Our injectors are tested at 85-90% duty cycle, and flowed at 43.5 psi. Example: 50#ers flowed at 90% duty cycle, typically flow between 42-48 lbs. per hour."

Yes, the injectors do have numbers engraved in them, but now that they're in the truck I can't tell you what's on them. I spoke with Mike on the phone about those numbers and he told me everything was correct. The memcal is seated correctly BUT I will remove the ECU again tomorrow and redo everything just to be sure. All sensor connections are seated properly and no, I am not getting any DTC errors, check engine light, or anything out of the ordinary. The only thing different I noticed in DM is the truck stays in open loop mode and the O2 Mv's are constantly cycling up and down.

The throttle body was somewhat dirty so I cleaned it with an entire can of Gumout and a toothbrush; it's perfect now. New upper intake and throttle body gaskets were used as well. I went back through the injector harnesses and made sure they were plugged into the correct injectors - good. I also reused the metal clips from the original injectors that secure them to the fuel rail. No vacuum leaks - like I said, 18 Hg at idle which is what the boost/vacuum gauge always reads.

What else do you suggest?

had you not come in here and continue to have a piss poor attitude you might actually accomplish something. You made a post in attempt to get your truck running properly. Nobody cares about your personal issues with other members.

9/10 times it is the install. Being the first one to admit my own fault, the customer truck i referred to in the first post, had the v2 installed by me. I spent 2 days trying to figure out why it wouldnt run properly, while the customer was having a fit saying "I knew this was a mistake, i just want the stock injectors, i had a feeling this wouldnt work". I tried 3 map sensors, 4 chips, 3 fprs, another set of injectors, and just about everything else possible. I explained I knew it wasnt the chip, something else was up. Finally I figured out that I had installed a check valve backwards in the EGR system.... what should have been a 60 minute install turned into 2 wasted days for me. I have installed hundreds of chips, so the last thing I suspected was my own install. Nobody is perfect, and after a long days work it is easy to make a mistake.

You obviously have very little expirience with aftermarket parts. You will come to find out that things can and will go wrong. Nobody is really to blame, but everything can always be fixed. If you can't handle it, leave it stock.

If you want to make it hard on yourself, keep up the whining. You are not going to get a refund b/c you couldnt figure out how to hook it up. I will not take back used injectors, unless there is a defect in one of them. I will not take back the chip, because I tested it on a customer truck prior to sending it out.

Its up to BG if he wants to help. After your attempt to belittle me in your first post I'm done with you.

You suck Mike, go fuck yourself and your products. I knew you wouldn't back up your business like you always say you will. As far as I'm concerned, I just wasted $900 on you. I'm pulling your parts out of my truck tomorrow and getting the stock injectors cleaned and flow matched. I have never seen vendors with such poor customer service. You will never get another dime from me, I guaranteed it :fist: You guys have no idea how to treat customers. Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "The customer is ALWAYS right!"? Regardless of my attitude, you should have been willing to help and make things right. But instead, you make everyone in here believe it's my fault and that I must have done something wrong. Anyone want to buy a brand new Ultimate 50# and injectors? $795 shipped to your door.
