Hydra boost shaft adapters

Hey guys. For those of you who have hydra boost or are going to, I have built a bracket that eliminates the need for cutting the shaft off and welding it. This is good for a few reasons.

1) Not everyone is capable of welding, let alone cutting:lol:

2) If your unit goes bad you don't have to bring your rigged up core in and get the third degree.

3) When you get your new unit, you don't have to go go to the junkyard and get another shaft from an S10 brake booster.

This makes your hydra boost (especially if you go the cheap route) a bolt in deal. I am just going to go ahead and say $65 shipped to the lower 48. $65 + shipping anywhere else.

Here is how they start life:

Here they are put together

Slide your backing plate on to the hydra boost unit, with the semi circle facing up

Slide your hydra boost unit in to place, then bolt it down

Slide the smaller bracket over the shaft pin with the 3/8" tubing facing the driver side

Then the shaft lock goes on to the shaft pin( do not tighten yet)

Slide the hydra boost shaft on the the extension bracket

Locate your switch bracket

Use the old bolt

Install the switch bracket

Locate this bracket and place the short side over the old bolt and the longer side up to the extension bracket

Put your nut on the bolt and it should look something like this

When you are done, take a 1/8" long allen wrench and tighten down shaft collar (on the shaft pin). Don't throw away any of your old parts as you never know when you may need them.

If anyone wants theirs painted I will paint them for no money. You want powder coat, you will pay what I have to pay unless everyone wants them powder coated, I would have to bring them down tomorrow and get an estimate. Let me know if you guys are interested. You can paypal @ happy_turf@yahoo.com and add 3% for the fee or you can send me a money order or check to

Let me know if you guys have any questions. The install itself is not too bad, it is kind of a PITA since you are going to be under the dashboard but all in all not a bad deal.

Also, you may or may not need to adjust the brake switches afterward.

If anyone is unsatisfied, you can send it back and I will send you back your money.

I'm in. Let me know when you're ready to do it. I'd also like to see the finished product.

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

OK, I have to take it back, price includes shipping to lower 48's. As far as pics go, if you want the real finished piece pic, you would have to wait until I have the metal cut out. There were two plans for this initially. I had first thought I would cut the metal myself and even though I got it to look nice, it wasn't as smooth as a water jet piece. So I priced that out but have not actually had any plates cut out yet. I'll run my templates down to the guy but wouldn't be able to get them down there until next week. Warmpancakes has the nicest one I made by my own cutting. Maybe he can snap some pics. Ken? Also, these brackets go on the brake pedal, where no one will ever see them, therefor they will not be powder coated or anything like that. I am thinking just bare metal, unless you guys would rather they have some "finish" to them?

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

Well I have good news and bad news. Bad news is, I have decided to use a different water jet guy. The guy I had wen to initially, spent the week somewhere other than work. This guy I am using says I need to give him about 1-2 weeks. :( Sorry guys. These are going to turn out pretty sweet so it will be worth the wait. Here is the good news, I also decided to go ahead and have the backing cut out. You will need to add $20 to the cost unless you order it alone, then I will sell them for $35 shipped to the lower 48. As soon as these get done I will snap pics and take orders. Thanks for your patience.

For what? None of them come that way when you buy them from a part store (at least not that I have seen). Fivetodrive has sold several units, this would be ideal for those who went that route or those who go to the junkyard and get one. I tried to thread mine when I first got it but it goes right back to, what happens when this thing goes out and a new unit is needed? This totally voids any need to seek out a specialty shop for your install. I have gotten my install to cost me very little, even the lines I figured out a way to do for a mere $ 40. Adjustable rod would be very nice but ultimately, this way would save you time and money in the end.

I'm interested. Let me know if you have any more.

Thanks.

Soon as the water jetting gets done, I will have 10 units ready to ship out. Depending on how long it takes me to put them together, I may lower the price. Do you guys have a problem with raw metal or would you rather see these painted or powder coated?

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

what metal? aluminIum or SS or just plain steel?

just steel. This isn't a performance part or anything so I really am thinking cosmetics isn't real important. Hell, you will never even see it and it goes inside the truck. I am open to ideas though.

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

Just pure metal. I don't wnat anything fancy on an unseen part. Function is much more important.

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

OK guys I should have this stuff in my hands by tomorrow afternoon, sorry for the wait. I stopped by this morning to make sure all the measurements were correct, the layout looked sweet. I can't wait to get these things done. Soon as I get them I will post pics and take orders. Still not sure on a final price. Once they are done and I put the first one together I will make up my mind.

Re: Hydra boost shaft adapters

not to hijack this , but did you find the hydroboost unit fittings to be different than what i have in my vaulted install diagram ? my old fittings screw into my newer unit , but need a o-ring seal and do not seal properly .

thank you .

Yeah I actually sent you a PM on that. I found that if you have it mounted upside down, the port closest to the driver side, the fitting didn't go all the way down. That's when I said screw it. Went down to Auto Zone and got the stock lines. Then went to Parker and bought 2 90* and one straight compression fitting. All in all cost me like $50. I am sure there is another fitting that will work but I just didn't feel like doing the leg work:lol:
