Building a new A2A

I found the core and ill do the welding some time later
the dim are 4 x 21 x 13,5
Its big and front mount.
What do you think about the size ?
4x21 is 84sqi flow area for minimum pressure drop

where are you planning on mounting the i/c core? behind the grille? under the front bumper? if you're going behind the grille, i don't know if you'll have enough room to fit the rad, a/c condenser, and the i/c unit and fit the grille back on there.

Better figure out where you plan on mounting it and if you have enough room. I had to cut the brace on the core support passenger side so I can run the piping for the unit, and have to make some mods to the end tank.

Canadian, is that a Buick unit?
If it is, that's funny cause I was just thinking about asking if anyone had used one. Seems that the price of the Buick units is more better.

Actually since I am IC-less, well and motor-less, I was thinkin about making my own Air to Air unit. Only because I bought some trick aluminum brazing rod and figured I could save some $$$$ in the process.
I can't weld for shit, but brazing is a breeze.
If anyone is interested in the Al brazing rod, PM me. I'll provide the info when I get home.

It sure needs some cutting but its OK with me
I already have done one from gasket material to see for any clearanse problems
The cores are two 2 inches pieces welded together that comes from the 480 hp mercedes truck
I paied nothing for the old cores that now are clean like new
All i have to pay is the dude that welds those stuff and the material for the end tanks....lets say not more than 200 euros or usd
The design is different than yours canadian, the end tanks are from the top and the bottom and it looks like one i downloaded yestarday-ill send the pic-

My I/C was designed for another application that never came to light. They were going to be shipped to a trucking company in the middle east, but after all the trouble over there lately, they decided not to send them because nobody was going to pony up the cash.

I picked it up for a decent price, but the only issue was the end tank pointing out the front instead of to the side. I've tried mailing the guy back so I could pick up some more, but he never responded so I gave up.

I'm thinking of having the top of the one end tank lopped off and an outlet pointing back towards the inlet side welded back on. Got one quote for $150, but that seemed a little steep to me.

The core support is off the truck and there's just enough room to fit a 2.5" pipe across the top of the I/C without hitting the top of the core support so I should be OK. Then I just need to make all the piping to and from the I/C itself. Since I removed the A/C, I have enough room behind the grille to mount it right up front. Should be interesting.

i figured you would have in/out on the same side, which would mean endtanks on the top and bottom. Figure 3" endtanks both top and bottom for a total of 6".

13.5" + 6" = 19"

Maybe you already had the endtanks installed?

I tried to find a 3,5 inches core ...yeah right....the 4" will make my life a little bit difficult installing but thats what a SYTY owner is used to.............

why dont you just bend some sheetmetal and make your own tanks? if you are doing 2.5" IC piping you can get away with a 2.75-3" end tank.

basically my fabrication skillz are sorely lacking. i can cut and chop, but putting it all back together is not my specialty. combine that with the fact that i don't have the equipment to weld it all up, and it's probably better if i get someone else to do the I/C mods.

Alu welding requires skills ,although i can do some very nice work with other welding ,i do not touch alu ( for now)

Well I have gone a different route.. I made a W2A .. mounted it under the from bumper... just finished welding it up today.

I will post some pics once I have it ready...

I think it is really trick. I just went to Spearco and bought two cores...

And by the way.. this thing is huge for a water to air. It is a 4.5 thick x 9 wide by 10.125 long.

The heat exchanger is in front of the radiator and the pump will be mounted on the water tank/ice chest.

I have the IC done.. after today... I will be working on the water tank next.. Have it all drawn up in CAD, just have to plot it tomorrow and order some materials.

Like I said.. it is big.. my welding is improving.

It is two spearco 2-171 cores... 4.5 x 9 x 10.125 each

Pretty trick so far.

I was thinking about it last year and i wanted to mount this against the throttle body . After some measurements i decided to go with the easy way .Call me lazy :oops: :-? :)

Well I wanted something that was permanent.. as far as me not going back later and changing it.

I would be much easier to just buy one.. I would like to think I saved myself a pretty hefty chunk of change by fabbing it myself.. plus I enjoy doing this stuff.

Of course I did buy a plasma cutter and a welder to do it... but I don't consider that as part of the overall cost.. those are things I use a lot.

It is nice to be able to make my own IC pipes, down pipe, crossover, etc., then I can run them exactly how I want to.

I also installed the 4L60E last night.. I am looking forward to the benefits of the electronic control of the tranny.
