A/C Replacement/Upgrade?

Re: A/C Replacement/Upgrade?

Old thread back from the ether. Chat conversation with DaveP on this subject got me going, as I am changing out most of my A/C components. After a nationwide search, I just received my parallel flow, direct replacement bolt in condenser which is supposed to increase the performance of R134a systems. I will post fitament and performance results next week after install. Condenser was very hard to find, and supplier stated there are only a very few left. I will also be installing the variable orfice tube, which I got from Advanced Auto Parts.

On a side note, last week I purchased a Visteon 2302 condenser from Advanced Auto Parts that was advertised as a parallel flow, but in fact it was not, just a regular tube and fin. I sent it back and got this one from Universal Air Conditioning, Inc.

Cool stuff, Randy.

Would you please take and post a pic of the side-view of the tank and header on the lines side? I'd like to see how they manifold the tubes. Usually in groups.

Sort of discouraging that the parallel flow is in short supply. I guess the demand has decreased to the point they're out of production.

Thanks for the up-date.

Re: A/C Replacement/Upgrade?

Installed new parallel flow condenser yesterday, and it indeed is a direct bolt in for the most part. I had to bend the inlet pipes slightly (about 1" or so) to line up with the factory lines, and the plastic shroud piece on the passenger side will not fit back in. I also replaced the orifice valve with a variable unit and replaced the dryer as well. Pulled a vacuum, and as of 9 p.m. last night, it was still holding. Turns out my compressor is probably OK (saving about $280), and it just had the wrong o-rings in it installed by a previous mechanic. When I get the system charged, I will post results.

Any results? Do you have a part number handy for the condenser? Do you think this condenser and a variable orifice would improve a system still on R-12?

Yeah! What he said I said. :rotf:

sorry, no part number, but as stated, ordered from universal air conditioning via advanced auto parts. A/C still working great. I can't testify as to weather the variable orifice and parallel condenser work much better, as I do not drive in traffic much. I do know that it blows cold, and seems colder than it was before. I think my main problem was restricted air flow across the condenser due to the FMIC. Maybe the Taurus fan fixed that.

I am low on r-12 in mine and thinking of just switching over to 134 as well. So researching I found this hope it is helpfull for anyone looking for the part. 94-04 parallel flow condensor. Now just gota figure out about the compressor figured 150000 on the truck probably ought to change it.

That year model was pretty easy to find, but the one that I found was a direct fit for our trucks. I will try to find the receipt for it, but the supplier told the Advanced Auto commercial desk guy that they only had about five left, and wanted to get rid of them.

here is link to their website. I do not know these guys, I only know that mine fit directly in my syclone and is a parallel flow.
