keep up the pics - i am thinking about doing the exact same modification to my truck. I can't wait to see the finished product.

??? - Are they back door handles off a 4-door. I see that neither of them have lock provisions.

I would love to see more pics.

Marty,

They are from the back doors of a newer 4-door blazer.. The third handle in the pics(without any metal) is from the rear tailgate.

so how well do the rods line up, is this why you moved the handle back ?

It looks like the rods will line up perfectly.. Look at the 2nd to the last picture.. See how the arm on the back of the handle sticks in pretty far.. I had to keep that to the left of the window/window channel... Thats why I moved the handle towards the edge of the door. Otherwise that arm would hit the window.. If you look at the 2nd gen trucks they are in the same location for the same reason..

Here is what I was able to get done tonight...

This is the final hole that will be cut in the door:

This is the new metal and handle in the hole:

This picture is for Renz.. He though that the handle may not fit with the curvature of the door.. I think its going to work out pretty well:

I may not have time to work on these again till Thursday night so expect some pics of everything welded into place then...

yep, i was gonna, I still have my door handles sitting in the box they were shipped in. Matt IMed me asking if I had done it yet, but I told him he would be the first  Unfortunately I now see that if I ever do them, Im gonna have to figure out a way to move them forward to the stock location, I couldnt live with them being that far back.

I think you would have to use a handle that isn't as deep.. I don't think it would be possible to move the window any further away.. I noticed that the handles on the Trailblazers are beneath the glass.. Maybe those handles aren't quite as deep?

I've got some more pics or you:

This is how I have been cutting the holes in the doors:
10%20cutting%20out%20hole%20in%20door.JPG

I was able to re-use the rods that connect the handle to the lock assembly.. I did not even need to change the length of them.. They do need to be rebent as such though:

Here are some pics of the handles tacked in place and functional:

Re: 2nd Gen door handles in sy/ty style door

The body work is done and the doors have been shot with a self etching primer then a high build sandable primer..

I hope to have time to give them a final sanding and some paint next weekend..
