Wow... great galleries... I wish I would have seen those before I did mine. I live the look of my 2nd gen handles.

And I love the look of your truck.. You are doing a great job. Did you paint the piece of black rubber that goes between the door and the handle blue as well. I have a second set of handles that I plan to paint white to match the vehicle but I'm afraid that black rubber will stick out like a sore thumb. I think that paint would probably flake off of it..??

Thanks man. I took off the black rubber piece. I had to cut it right in the center on the back to come off. It comes right off and goes right back on.

So you took it off, painted it, then put it back on? Or did you leave it unpainted?

I took off the black rubber, painted the handle, and put the unpainted black rubber back on .

I left the rubber black on the ty although its over gunmetal I do not think its to noticeable. My problem is the second gen guys who paint over the rubber it always ends up flaking somewhere and just looks terrible.

Here is a 97 s10 I bought off my buddy re-v8 swapped it and did some paint work. Sorry the image quality and angle suck its all I have in my photobucket. But as you can see the rubber is left black.

Here is the ty handles.

Although for some reason on the typhoon I feel like I may have trimmed the edge of the rubber down a bit. I do not remember though as it sits in the corner and have not look at it in a couple years.

does anybody know - will the handle relocation kits for the sy work for the ty, too?
I want to shave my tailgate, but need a mechanical release for the gate...

Nope, completely different mechinism inside the S10 tailgate and a Jimmy tailgate.

I relocated my handle to the inside and smoothed the tailgate with a blazer skin. Just an option for you.

Yeah, I like them much better shaved.

I welded a little piece of metal over the keyhole and body worked from there..

You can see in the 2nd pic what I did for the latches..
