2011 Camaro RS

I know...I know...It doesn't sound like much of a contest but I had to post because this guys mouth made the win very gratifying.

I am sitting at a light that shoots straight onto a long country road. The right lane where I sit has about 75 yards before you have to merge left into one lane. This black guy pulls up on my left (seems normal) and his GF or wife is riding shotgun. He looks over and sneers. Keep in mind he has this poor camaro sitting on 20" black wheels and the entire car is murdered out. At this point I am thinking to myself that I should remain silent and then give him a taste when the light turns green. This was the plan until he started talking smack about the corvette Z06 wheels on the truck. "What do you think you are a corvette? You couldn't afford the car so you just bought the wheels?" His lady friend thought that was some funny commentary so I addressed her instead of him with my response. I say directly to her "Do you think he is funny when he makes fun of other people when he clearly has no idea what he is talking about? Does that impress you?" Absolute silence....Priceless. Then I say to the guy "I'm not a history teacher so no free lessons today but if you know how to read and write go home and do a search on 91 Syclones." In hindsight the read/write comment was a bit over the top and I am by no means a racist guy but he pushed my buttons. I am not apologizing for it just saying it was bit over the top.

Anyway, this guy is revving the shit out of this poor car and I just sit there watching the opposing traffic light turn yellow. I rev her up to build some boost, the light goes green, and he was left like he was standing still. I mean I must have had 3 cars on him instantly. I never got it past 60mph. I didn't see the point in going faster. He was beat in less than 50 yards. It was just a quick blast. He pulls right up on my ass flipping me the bird and shouting. I couldn't hear a damn word he was saying but he was clearly agitated. GF was just sitting there with a sullen look on her face - poor girl!

Re: 2011 Camaro RS

We recently had the GM Main Street in Motion event near us and I had a chance to drive the V-6 Camaro and was not impressed at all with the performance. For a car that has 312 hp I was surprised that it had so little power out of the hole. It had to get to about 3k before it started making decent power. I was interested in buying one in the next year or so, but have since changed my mind.

On the other hand, I also drove the 2011 Buick Regal CSX Turbo and was very impressed. The handling and power was amazing. The car was very well optioned for the base price and the performance far superior to the Camaro. This may be my next DD.

Drive an auto or stick? The A6 in the Camaro is horrible and the manu-shift doesnt help much for making it feel any better. It also makes a HUGE difference when you take all the nanny traction controls off the car. You have to hold the center traction button on the console for more than 8 seconds until it signifies that you are in full control with no assistance.

I first drove a v6 2010 manual about a year ago and was impressed being that the Camaro is huge and heavy. I made sure I hoon'd on it as hard as I could with the salesman in the back seat telling me to take it easy (the car was actually sold, he failed to mention that and would have never driven it that hard if I had known up front)....I was able to easily chirp it all the way through 3rd. Compared to a Syclone out of the hole, it's a no brainer who will win.

In stock form, the LS/LT is a mid/low 14 second car. The SS does high/mid 13s given you can drive and not spin through every gear.

For 2012, they now have the 3.6 V6 LFX engine that is DI and makes 323 HP stock. It's going in the the CSX as well.

I ordered a 2LT 45th Anniversary Edition at the end of last month. It should be on the assembly line in 2 weeks. Looking forward to getting it.

It was a 6A. I did have the traction control turned off. The GM rep that rides along in the passenger's seat turned it off for me as I indicated that I was a performance guy and was really going to put it through it's paces. I just expected a bit more oompf off the line. I am sure the stick is far better, but driving in Boston traffic every day would suck. I really like the heads up display though. Very cool.

Re: 2011 Camaro RS

Seems to me you really dont need the vette to go with your wheels lol, I took a 2010 ss maro at the track in my Ty with little to no effort. In my honest opinion why would you spend 30k on a car that will get spanked by a 10k car all day. Awesome kill my friend

Lol some guys dont buy them for racing, I never seen a lady say damn I want to ride in that s-10 or blazer, but many ho's like expensive cars like camaro ss's and ofcourse the vettes, vipers ect. Also they are newer being one of the biggest + and not a 1991 truck. Just the way it goes sometimes. You can make anything fast.

Re: 2011 Camaro RS

People put on wheels for looks all the time. I have never been a fan of putting on gear that belongs on another car and have been looking for a way to replace the center caps. But, If the guy was to understand performance vehicles better and looked a little closer he would have seen the corvette calipers, 14" slotted/cross drilled rotors and understand why the wheels were there. One reason - to accomodate the size of the brake system. I would love to put the stock wheels back on but I am also in love with the way this thing stops which is damn hard.

I saw sportsmachines reproduction stock wheel that would work but they are spendy to say the least.

Ay idea on center caps?

I try to tell my friends that but most insist on buying a brand new car. To each their own.
