Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
Guys. The local shop that said they could cut the blind internal splines have backed out. What sucks is that every few days I would get a txt stringing me along saying they are so busy but will give me a quote the next week. I'm so frustrated with these...
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
1. I have a little more news today. The cut internal splines will be of the involute internal type (this is the strongest variety). I've been thinking about the 4340 300m and Maraging steels in comparisons of hardness and strength. They are about the same...
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
Guys,
There is no reason to get upset here. I havent forgotten about the shaft but please understand that making 40+ shafts is a BIG deal. First of all 4340 300m steel isn't something you pick up at your local metals supplier. It's special order stuff and...
I can make them out of anything you want however there is no reason to over engineer it if not needed. I thought of using steel but the sample part is heavy in comparison of Aluminum which is light and strong.
I suspect that the treads are the weakest link in this assembly. Come to think of it...
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
I made the adapter you see in the pic. The shaft was borrowed from a member of this board that Bruce organized. It's in an earlier thread.
I used the shaft to get my dimensions and to create tooling to hold the shaft while machining. I did assemble this...
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
I have an original piece from another kit that is in use. I got the dimensions from it. I then checked it against the OEM adaptor.
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
Happy holidays. I'm going to make a run of aluminum adapters. The price is $210 plus shipping. Can I get an indication who is ready to purchase?
Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
I need to mount the adaptor to check all clearances and then I can start cranking out a few each evening for you guys.

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase
Hi everyone,
First I would like to thank Bruce for organizing this project and also a big thanks to all who have shown an interest.
I've been working with Bruce to design and manufacture the transfer shaft for the 4L80 modification.
I'm sure everyone is...
