4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

From what I am hearing, a "real deal" is in the works. People may be able to get real 4340 shafts here in the next few weeks to a month no bs cryo crap.

Sorry to anyone who thinks I am shitting on this thread but this is ridiculous. It's not fair to the people that have money and want this to get done, they are being played for fools. I could have had these done in September and I got blasted for offering. This whole "deal" was a joke and I would be shocked if it ever happens. It's unprofessional at best and I wouldn't do business with anyone that made me wait this long. I hope the deal I am hearing about happens for the sake of those that can't drive their trucks because someone can't pull their head out of their ass and get some shit done.

The guy said he was doing it in his off time..not much point in getting upset over it. I'd be perfectly happy ordering from just about anyone that has the shaft and adapter ready to go though.

I get that and I am not upset. I already have one so it doesn't affect me either way. Point is, not everyone wants to wait 6 months to a year for something and all they get in the meantime is CAD pictures. Meanwhile, people can't drive their truck because they are stuck on stands waiting for something that could have been delivered but the OP was too arrogant to face that they may not have the capability or the time and shoots me down for offering a REAL solution in REAL time.

I guess since I am in business for myself I am accustomed to delivering what I say when I say. Whether or not this is being done in spare time shouldn't be an excuse, people want a product and paying customers deserve to get it. God thing no one paid upfront, as they say, you get what you pay for....

Im not sure Mike's post is going to the level of posting drama but you can feel whatever you want.

Please remove me from the list of people wanting one, I am done waiting...

Wow! say it isnt so... A "real deal" who would have thought after all this waiting for someone who hasnt collected a penny from your sorry ass. Why didnt you start your own thread to publically announce people "may" believe you.

Sorry to anyone who thinks I am shitting on this thread but this is ridiculous. It's not fair to the people that have money and want this to get done, they are being played for fools.

Whats ridiculous about it? Knowbody has collected yours or anyone elses money, whats not fair about it? It's not a surprise that it doesnt take anyone but yourself to make you sound like a fool.

I could have had these done in September and I got blasted for offering.

"Could have" you didnt get blasted, you put your tail between your legs and used someone else to blame for you not making it happen. Put your money up for everyone and make it happen, or go have your own damn shaft made for yourself. Your a smart guy, you can make your own financial decisions.

This whole "deal" was a joke and I would be shocked if it ever happens. It's unprofessional at best and I wouldn't do business with anyone that made me wait this long.

You make me laugh, you havent done business with anyone over this. And knowone is making you wait this long, move on and quit crying about it publically like a fool. If you had hurt feeling's and cant sleep at nite because of this whole waiting thing then you could have been an adult and sent a private email or PM resigning your interest in this group purchase.

I hope the deal I am hearing about happens for the sake of those that can't drive their trucks because someone can't pull their head out of their ass and get some shit done.

Oh these poor adults can not drive there trucks because someone else, how pathetic. It's nobody else's fault but there own. While your hoping the deal your hearing about happens why dont you take your wife's panties off and put them back in her drawer

People are just gonna have to wait...myself included. I also dont appreciate your comments on your thread about "people messing around." in reference to me.
You should of consulted with me about it before & I would'nt have wasted my time or anybody elses. Don't turn my thread into some drama BS.
Delete your remarks and lets move on.

I started one because most of the people on here are bullshiters and I had friends wanting these things badly that didn't want to mess around waiting for some glamorous idea that may not happen. It's not fair to them. Once I realized I knew a competent shop here that could actually pull it off with no BS I figured why the hell not? I hadn't seen any progress from your end or anyone elses so it seemed to me like another possible dead end for everyone. I don't know why you think I should consult you on anything, who are you supposed to be that I would need to do that? I could see if you developed a custom part for the trucks and made them yourself but this was a bit different.

IMO, I never disrespected you, if anything lit a fire under your ass to get something done, we can see it how we want individually. I thought I was being pretty humble by not only ending my thread but, commending you on yours, if you don't see it that way and want to be a prick then you can go **** yourself, I'm not kissing anyone's ass around here especially not yours. Have a mod delete those posts if you're PM me telling me off. If you can't appreciate what I said to you in your thread then why the hell should I do it?

Guys,

There is no reason to get upset here. I havent forgotten about the shaft but please understand that making 40+ shafts is a BIG deal. First of all 4340 300m steel isn't something you pick up at your local metals supplier. It's special order stuff and at well over $100 per shaft just for the material alone its a BIG up front cost. Machining costs are around $300/ea at the moment. I'm still waiting for a reasonable quote to cut the internal splines. Splines in a blind hole is not trivial. So you can see that at $400+ per shaft in material costs and machining time there isn't a lot of room for error. If cost was no problem then the story is very different.

I need to reduce the cost to make them or raise the price. It takes time to get the cost to manufacture under control.

I understand your frustration waiting on me. I apologize for not giving regular updates. I hope to have more info tomorrow.

I talked to Bruce about this today and we seem to have a better understanding but since I just got on and read this the only thing else I have to say is **** you Eric, you're a bitch and let your buddies do their own arguing.

I told Bruce I would let this be so if you have any thing else you want to say we can PM or you can start a shit talking thread about me and we can argue back and forth and insult each other.

Sorry Bruce, didn't know Eric was going to start up when I talked to you but I swear I wont post in your thread anymore. I'm sure Renz can clean up your thread.

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

1. I have a little more news today. The cut internal splines will be of the involute internal type (this is the strongest variety). I've been thinking about the 4340 300m and Maraging steels in comparisons of hardness and strength. They are about the same price but Maraging steel doesn't need to be hardened as much at the end to achieve a rockwell of 52. Is it an option for us???

2. I had to get request a requote for the materials and I hope to have those numbers on Monday.

3. The adapter plates should be ready to order next week as I expect a chance to fit the prototype to Bruce's truck.

4. I would like to hear any comments/experience/failures that the members of syty.net may have had with Maraging steel.

Here is a Wikipedia entry regarding Maraging steel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maraging_steel

That is all for now.

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

I cant speak for other members but for myself I don't have much knowledge of metal hardness. Assuming harder = stronger then obviously harder = better(save for expansion rates and any other variables involved). Beyond that I don't think many people have suffered failures from stock TC input shafts at high HP so it would stand to reason a metal at least as hard/strong as OEM would be sufficient. I don't know what stock hardness might be but I'm guessing there are quite a few other areas in the drive train more susceptible to failure. Why not just use the same metal used to make previous shafts already proven in trucks like the Mr. Syclone and Danimal?? (Chromoly? 300m?not sure what they used)

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

I know that 300m is used in off-road and severe duty racing purposes. I am unaware of any other severe duty shaft supplier that uses anything else. With our AWD, we have slip/grab/slip/grab on 4 tires. That s a lot of stress. Especially on a launch. I know there is another GP going on but still would like to see this come to light. Hell, i am in no rush, and i am sure there are others.
