    Removing front prop shaft?

Re: Removing front prop shaft? Look at my first post on this page: visous clutch It will damage the viscous clutch if you drive it like a mad man(lots of rear wheel spinning). Also, it's pretty common knowledge that if you take the front prop out and then park on a hill and put the trans in...

    transmission doesn't shift

Re: transmission doesn't shift Either the governor is sticking or the TV valve is stuck making the pressure so high that it won't allow the governor to allow the shift.

    Tranny or TCC? Audio inside...

Re: Tranny or TCC? Audio inside... Almost sounds like the pinion on the starter is lazy letting go and is dragging. The only thing spining in park is the flywheel and torque converter. Unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel and push the converter back into the trans. Start the engine...

    New Tranny Lasted 20 miles

Re: New Tranny Lasted 20 miles You check stall by applying the brakes and reving the engine. When the engine won't go any higher and tries to stall, you've found your stall. I don't recommend doing it because it really heats the trans up. Also, if your tires break free, the test is no good...

temp sender in Line Psi check plug? and Q's

Re: temp sender in Line Psi check plug? and Q's Keeping the trans in park is a mechanical thing. When you put the lever in park it physically moves a pawl and locks it into the rear ring gear. This locks the rear ring gear to the case basically. However this doesn't lock the transfercase. You...

    help, no reverse and...

Re: help, no reverse and... Flush and fill won't touch it. If that is what is causing it, the valvebody will have to be pulled and all the valves and springs pulled and the whole assembly flushed out. Then you'll fill it back up with crud. It's time to rebuild/replace it.

    Kaboom, screeech

Re: Kaboom, screeech What Merk is talking about is inside the transfer case and is a component called a viscous clutch. This clutch has a silicone like substance in it that heats up and expands making the steels in the clutch drag more on each other. The hotter the fluid, the more they drag...

    4l80e question

Re: 4l80e question Does the 502 have the extra bolt hole at the top? I know the 4L80E from 2000 and up have the extra hole at the top in the form of an ear that comes up off the bellhousing. Mine had to be cut off to keep from pinching the wiring harness in the Ty. Sawzall makes it an easy job...

    help, no reverse and...

Re: help, no reverse and... Check fluid, inspect pan. Look for metal fragments. It's very possible that you've completely filled the valvebody up with gunk. If the valves can't move, it will act very odd. If the governor or TV is crudded, it will result in very low or high shift points(in and...

    Bad Idle has me stumped

Re: Bad Idle has me stumped This'll take some time but it's free. Take out the cat conv. and see if the problem resolves. If it does, the converter may be partially clogged or flow restricted. The method of checking that is in the Helms won't always work. When done, run a datamaster file of it...

    4L80e Converter

Re: 4L80e Converter That's what I did. My #40 actually drills .100". I took a micrometer and checked the chuck end vs the cutting end and found slight variations in my set and #40 actually gave me what I needed. As far as shift firmness, it is all to taste. Your opinion of "hard" might be...

    Crazy Tach

Re: Crazy Tach The noise isn't referring to the pump audible noise. We're talking about EMI noise and the capacitor placed on the 12 volt ignition that feeds the pump takes care of it.
