Removing front prop shaft?

So what happens (damage wise) if you remove the front propshaft, even if it's just temp. and drive the truck "normally" for a couple of weeks? Any problems?

Re: Removing front prop shaft?

I've driven mine really easy daily before for three months.. If you could get away with not doing it I would suggest that only because some people on here claim it'll damage the transfer case or something.

Look at my first post on this page:
visous clutch
It will damage the viscous clutch if you drive it like a mad man(lots of rear wheel spinning).
Also, it's pretty common knowledge that if you take the front prop out and then park on a hill and put the trans in "park", the truck will slowly roll away while you are gone. That is also due to the viscous clutch in the transfer case not getting any resistance from the front differential.

Re: Removing front prop shaft?

I drove my bluebox with a light foot and no propshaft for about 2 months with no issues. I only had the urge to do one small burnout to get it out of my system. :)

Fair warning, it becomes very easy to kick out the rear without the shaft in, so if your heavy on the gas around corners or take something fast in the rain, you may want to carry an extra pair of boxers or briefs with you ;)

You shoud see a bit better gas mileage too if you remain with easy driving, dont have that extra parasitic loss from AWD.

Re: Removing front prop shaft?

Ok thanks guys. I'm gonna pull it to do some work "down below" and just didn't want to screw anything up and at the same time was not looking forward to the "in and out" deal while testing and making changes.
Thanks!
