Won't pass smog....

Hey guys just got the Ty running with the new rebuild: forged pistons, comp cam, vortec heads, 3 bar, chip. Took it for a smog check passed all visual and failed on the idle emissions. I think it is idling too high but the tech said even if you lower the idle it doesn't fix the amount of gas its letting out. He says he smells to much gas coming out when idling. What should I do?

adjustable fuel pressure regulator.. turn the fuel pressure way down and throw in some dry gas..

don't get on it while the fuel pressure is down though, it'll go boom

Well that's what I've been told. Do I have to add an adjustable regulator, what is it exactly. Dry gas? Supplement for the octane.

Swing by and I will check the regulator. I can put my fuel guage on for you and see the pressure. Adjustable regulators are a easy install and cost about 100$.

What chip do you have? If it's an ultimate. It might not pass. Let gjp help you. How close were you to passing?

he came by today. He is a nice guy and cant wait to enjoy his Ty. problem might be his cam. It idles high (412 cam) and wont pass the idle test. Told him to add a AFPR and see if he can turn the fuel down. Does the stuff you buy for smog at the auto stores work? His truck sounds and runs nice. Idles around 850rpm and drives great to me. He has a 64 nova too I want to see. I think he says he has a chip. Has no adjustments so I guess its a pitbull or simular. Hope its not a KB chip.

Even if it a 412 it should pass. Mines is custom and more like a 422. It does pass but I must reinstall my stock chip. Try denatured alky. It works.

Pay a crooked SMOG tech. I guess that's what I'll have to do since I can't pass visual with the headers, A2A, big turbo, K&N, etc. :roll: Money talks...

Yeah, that's exaltly what I did. After the fact I paid $50 for a legal smog check. Still don't know why it didn't pass though.
