Re: rebuild of renegade"sy" #2048
This post had good tech info in it. So here it is again:
And I dont't care what it ran like. It could have been cutting 6's for all i care. That's not a SyTy engine, and you didn't know it. I'd be interested to know if any of these predictions pan-out. Such as bent rods, or Tonawanda rods, if you know the difference, or the non Nodular caps.. Obviously this wasn't written by mandi. It was written by someone with a hell of a lot more SyTy experience than you are EVER likely to acquire. Keep up the attitude, dude. You're really liked on here. Not.
i had 180psi across all 6 cylinders woot woot.
The expected compression pressure for a SyTy engine is 145psi. And you have 180. That's too high, and causes lots of knock-retard and driveability issues.
I'm sure you don't care about this engine, as you are replacing it. But I'm sure it will
possibly be showing up in the FS section as a "killer deal". Here's a heads-up for potential buyers:
Those are NOT SyTy low-compression pistons. Those are regular 9.5:1 LB4 pistons that are used in a NA TBI engine. Hence the high cranking pressure.
There was talk way back regarding 'regular' engines being used for SyTy replacements by Dealers. These 'regular' engines don't have the Nodular caps, correct compression pistons, and are often Tonawanda engines that have weaker connecting rods. I predict that when you get this opened up, you will find at least one bent connecting rod. Probably #4 cyl. It will be obviously bent. And the center two main bearings are probably going to be to the copper from the detonation.
To potential buyers: Be very, very careful about purchasing this engine. Ask a LOT of questions.
