Window Motor?

Ok, along with the other gremlins that keep poping up, my driver side window will not work intermitantly, it will stop working, wait a few minutes and then up it goes... is this the motor or the switch. The passenger side works fine from both the drivers side and pass side switches.

ps looking for a new key fob, the loop on mine cracked and wont stay on the key chain..

Thanks in advance

Had that issue with BOTH sides on mine.. ended up not being electrical at all but the mounting of the motor... It had rivets in it and one had broke and one was damn close... so at certain angles the motor would move instead of the window... then it would bind... replaced with 3 pan headed bolts and voila...

Re: Window Motor?

Mine does the same thing. Since it sits in the garage it isn't life or death for me, but it's still annoying as hell when trying to take a phone call and the window goes up 1/2 way then stops. I usually punch the door panel, wait 30 seconds and it starts working. When I have the time I'm going to take the panel off and fix it.

And the track needing fresh lithium grease.

Also, the motor is held in place by 4 rivets - not 3.

Replace all 4 with nutz/bolts/lock washers and it won't move around on ya and jam up.

Re: Window Motor?

My bad - sorry bout that.

I replaced my entire motor and arms assembly in one swap - hence the mixup.

I used real short bolts with nutz and lock washers - no binding for me.

Re: Window Motor?

Thanks for all the help guys, gonna have to get that door panel off. Any tips for taking the panels off?

Re: Window Motor?

So now that what I've said has been re-worded to extract every possible fine detail... Basically remove the door panel and unhook everything from it... Try running the window up and down to watch the travel of the track... see if it binds up or if any of the rivets are loose, mine would roll down at a constant rate then drop like an inch all at once when this first started happening, it's a tell tale sign on all power windowed S-10's especially if you have had the windows tinted. If I remember right on mine when it would bind up the motor would get hot and essentially "pop the breaker" give it a few to reset and it would move up and down again until it got bound up again. FYI :2cents:

Pretty easy... I would recommend working your way from the bottom and back of the door forward and up... Remember to remove the arm rest pad and to un-clip the power window switch.

Re: Window Motor?

The panel is held on by plastic rivets - some of them may be really strong and when you pull the panel you might crack your panel.

I would recommend maybe sawing them off with a band saw blade one at a time. Replacement plastic tabs are available in Autozone for 3 bucks.

Re: Window Motor?

When I did the motor in the Sy, it was pretty easy. Most important thing is to bolt or secure the regulator so the spring doesn't turn it into a pair of scissors. Whenever I remove one of these door panels, I start with the armrest and pad, then go to the bottom, using a panel tool to pry the rivets out. It's going to be pretty tough at first, and you might hear some sickening pops/cracks when the rivets let loose, but 9/10 the panel will come off unscathed. Finally I tilt the panel and push up to unhook it from the window opening

A word of advice on the regulator mounting hardware: use blue loctite. A nut came off on a friends blazer, and everything went to hell when the bolt popped out. had to straighten the inside of the door, reshape one of the rollers, straighten the track, etc. Those motors are strong little shits!
