Window motor replacement

I am getting ready to replace the window motor in my Sy. I have searched and found a bunch of write-ups, but none of the pics seem to be working. Mostly I am interested in how to keep the spring loaded mechanism from exploding when i take out the motor. Also a pic of which rivets need to be drilled out would be great. So if you guys have any pics saved please post them up.

Well, I've done 2 or 3 of them, and from what I remember, there are 4 rivets holding in the motor/regulator assy in the door. Drill em out, and carefully remove the motor/regulator. There should be a pre-existing hole that you can put a bolt through on the regulator, so in the event that it does let loose, the bolt catches it. I use locktite on the new nuts & bolts holding everything to the door, since my friend tried to put the window down in her blazer in a snow/ice storm, and 2 nuts came loose, and the window fell. Learned my lesson on that one. Glad to hear you're well aware of the "whoop-ass spring" :tup:

just take the window out. wndows are for sissy.

The spring isn't that bad,switch is just a two wire hook up. Change the polarity to move the mechanism up or down. Like the other post said replace with screws dont try to rivet it back together. window motors are specific drivers side/ passenger side

Yeah that is the best write-up I could find...it sucks the pics don't work though. Thanks for the tips. Im gonna take it apart this weekend and maybe things will become clear once I take a look behind the panel.

Yeah, definitely bolts when it goes back together. I hate those damn rivets :rant:

Don’t forget that you have to hold the window up some while you are replacing the motor. I use a piece of coat hanger wire bent with a hook on both ends. I put one hook under the window and the other in one of the inside door panel holes. This way, I can work on it without bothering my wife (or visa versa).
