Wierd radio issue

SyTyless......for now!
Ok, just installed a factory radio bought from a fellow board member, radio works perfectly. Problems are listed below:

1. Turn on dome light, radio freaks out, display messes up
2. Shut off truck, all presets are lost
3. Open door (turns on dome light) same as #1
4. Foglights don't work
5. Remove dome light bulb, radio doesn't work

I think there's a short somewhere, since we had to splice in the connectors for the radio since the originals were cut when we bought the truck. All fuses are good, no problems before we put the radio in.

1. Turn on dome light, radio freaks out, display messes up
....you may have your illumination wire hooked up as your radio ground
2. Shut off truck, all presets are lost
.....you have your radio's battery lead connected to the ignition lead
3. Open door (turns on dome light) same as #1
.....see number 1
4. Foglights don't work
......??
5. Remove dome light bulb, radio doesn't work
....radio is grounding itself through the illumination circuit, only when the switch is off.

Re: Wierd radio issue

THANK YOU!!!! I tested the cig lighter along with the 12v for the radio, and got nothing. After reading your reply, I went out and checked the fuse, and its blown. Again, thanks, you saved me from thinking I had a major electrical nightmare

Re: Wierd radio issue

I had the exact same problem and I thought the worst. I came in read some posts and found my answer. I had my test light & multimeter ready for action.
