Checked production availability for a 255/50-16 tire lately? It's no longer in production by anyone. One style Hoosier and drag radials. That's it.
The G-force sport listed has been on "back order" for over two years. It's not available. I've tried. I wanted a set of road-tires for my C4, as the Gatorbacks that are on it are now 27 years old, and a bit hard for street use. I still want factory size (255/50VR-16) for NCRS Display purposes. None available as of about 18 months ago. Lots of 245's still in production. The 255 must have been limited in usage. C4 only? And is now obsolete.
315/40-16 Really? I wonder what it was used on? The C4 that used 315 was of course the ZR1, but it had 17" wheels.
I wanted to get a Goodyear 255/50 16 for my 85. Our Judging Standard has "standard deductions" for tires, batteries, headlight bulbs; anything that is common to ALL Corvettes regardless of year. The deduction for an OEM manufacturer, in the correct size, with some differences in tread style, is 20%. Non-OEM, correct size is 40%. Service replacement size ( I would argue this if I couldn't get 255's), non OEM is 75%. All others (non 255's if you can't win the argument on service replacement) 100%. Our road tires are 24 points. So no 255 Goodyears anymore is a problem for anyone wishing to show a 84-87 C4 in NCRS.
Another reason I don't want to risk blowing one of the original Gatorbacks on my 85. Those tires are worth a lot to someone wanting to take a 85-87 through The System. 24 points is a LOT. You can only loose 135 points and still have a McClellan Award car. The battery is already 10, so 24 in tires represents 20% of your McClellan score. That's a lot on a car that has been driven and is going to have some condition deductions.
There not Goodyear. But it may be worth checking into. If you need new tires.

I used to run those falken and have nothing bad to say. Strange because when I checked at the local tire shops the falken were not available. Maybe they wised up since no one else is making them.
