Wideband Question

I never used a wideband before but Ive read just about every post that comes up with a search. Can I hook up a wideband and see it on datamaster if Im not running an aftermarket chip or using code59 or any of that? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

I was looking through his site a while ago. I still couldnt tell though, can I do it even though Im still running a stock chip?

some widebands can simulate the narrowband O2, so you could use the wide band + gauge display, and have it send narrow band to the ecm. You won't see the wb data in datamaster though... MUST have a patched chip.

Mine doesnt simulate the narrowband O2. I guess my main question is, can you run a patch for the stock chip or does it have to be aftermarket?

I don't know if you can reburn a stock chip with the patch for a WBO2. You may need to get a prom adapter from Moates and have a chip burned with a stock .bin file and the WBO2 patch piggy backed with your stock chip. Hopefully Dig will chime in and confirm or deny .

But for now until I get that figured out I can still use the guage right? Just dont connect it to the ECM?

Absolutely... You can use the gauge as a standalone unit. You could connect it to the ECU if you want to get ahead of yourself but it will not do anything with out the patch. It won't affect how the truck runs, you just won't have WB Datalogging capabilities

You can burn a stock chip with a patched bin program to allow seeing the wb input with datamaster.
You just need the correct chip burner.
But that's a bit of a waste of time since once you see what's going on via the wb you'll want to starting tuning and need to be able to burn flash chips-aka a Moates adapter with a eeprom.
You can also go with an Moates Ostrich eprom replacement. But that's a whole other post.

The simplest form of patch takes the fuel pump voltage and uses it for wb use. The patch alters the stock code to use the system volts for injector pw correction instead of fuel pump volts.
$59 has several wb controller input options to allow the volts to afr conversion to be done by the ecm instead of the logging software. It also has options as to which pin to hook the wb up to the ecm I believe. Not sure since I've only used the F body version of the wb input code.

Can I install my wideband and "emulate" a narrowband (NB-E14) and run the vehicle without a patched bin safetly?

Yes you can... You use the WB's narrow band output instead of the stock O2. Works fine
