So, I am in the middle of my differential overhaul/locker install and there are an ASSLOAD of J-tools called out in the service manual.. I can get around the one CRUCIAL J tool I need (specifically J-33792) but it got me thinking, does anyone know where you can actaully purchase those tools from ?

I havent checked with the stealership.. Just wondering theres a place online that has them.. ?????

also, if you are just installing a locker, you shouldnt have to mess with those adjusting nuts, i think, unless you are changing the whole carrier. even if you are replacing the bearings, you should be damn close to where it should be even with new bearings.

cant you just use a screwdriver and tap the adjusting nut to spin it? it usually is not a tight thread fit.

Kinda hard to get a specific torque reading on a screw driver and hammer type setup. The manual indicates each side nut needs to be torqued to 100ft lbs then released to set the new bearings.. I removed the castle nuts for 2 reasons.

1. New bearings and races going in.. I dont wanna just chance that the NEW stuff is correctly setup. If your bearing are OK, I wouldnt mess with the nuts. IMO, if yer going with new bearings & races, I would recommend setting/checking the backlash. I have the tools to do this and am currently in the process of doing it.. I just needed to take a break

2. I cleaned/painted the diff halves and didnt want any contamination on them.

Definitely not the prettiest tool ever made, in fact its quite crude looking. But I took me a 34mm socket, a grinder and 10 mins to make this tool. The nuts are in and safetied now. As well as the differential is complete.

While you are in there.. You may as well as just order the locker and poly kit from Turbotime.. After all, its your fault that I even did the poly bushings which led to the locker installation you bastage !!

I wish it was running now, I'd really want to see what its like. The differential is IN the truck fully assembled and I just topped it off with some synthetic 85-140wt gear oil from Valvoline. With that said.. Time to put a wrap on the differential project and hopefully next weekend get the coilover suspension on. This will allow me to get the truck off jackstands and make it safe to play around with the engine installation !

BTW, PM or email me your address.
