Basically 82-04 frames are the same. The ZR2 frame will not work, and there are two different front sway bar mounting configurations in the later models. But dont rule out newer stuff.

The extended cab will have a longer wheel base. :2cents:

-but mechanically the drive train will bolt up.

The maybe all be pretty similar, but their might be minor differences and updates. I would be shocked in the 82 was exactly the same as a 94. I would try to get a 91 frame or within a year or so of 91.

The front support mounts are differant on the newer 2nd gen frame but other then that the frames through out the years are mostly interchangeable model for model (i.e. 4WD short bed std cab for 4WD short bed std cab)

I think 94 up are fully boxed frames. :dunno:

I know the 2WD 2nd gen frames are more boxed then the 1st gens but I don't know if they also added more boxing to the 4WD ones

But all the mounting points are still the same except the front support

So I wonder if the body mounts are the same location and height. Boxed frame would rock.

Yes as long as it for the same type S10 i.e they both have to be std cab short boxes

But the front where the radiator support attaches is differant but it can be cut off the old frame and welded on the new one

Re: what year frames work?

94 is a bastard year, it was really a 93 frame with a 2nd gen body. The 95 however was different, boxed all the way back. The 94 is only boxed in the front. Cross members and such also changed slightly over the years as well with a few different variations. Front sway bar connects changed on the lower control arms in 95 also. Nothing major that isn't easily fixed. I used a 93 Rancho suspension lift on my 94 and had zero problems with it working.

I have a stripped (no body or engine) 94 frame with full front suspension and front diff still in it, I've been trying to sell it, it is an extended cab truck though (surface rust only, came from the south).

if memory seerves, I seem to recall something about '88 being different from '87 and older. Something about the RH rail for the 4.3 clearance???? Perhaps the starter??

Yes the frames are definitely different for the 4.3 in '88, I know there is more room for the starter for sure, put whether that is the reason or the exhaust I don't know.
