What tire sizes for corvette rims?

Tried to search this and everything with "corvette" in it showed up.
Here's what I have:
Corvette 90's vintage sawblade rims.
8.5"X17 fronts
9.5"X17 rears
We need circumference as close as possible.
Here's best I could find:
255/45/17 front
285/40/17 rear
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
I used the above calculator and here's what I found:
81.8" circumference for the fronts
81.6" circumference for the rears
Basically 1 full tire rotation difference per mile.
Does this appear OK?

You could also do a 245/45-17 & 275/40-17's. If you ever bought 17x11 in that style rim the 245 would match the 315/35-17's. I personally would rather have a 245 or 255 in the front of a SyTy rather than the 275's which track road grooves like crazy. Also the 8.5" front rim doesn't have clearance issues with the stock A-arms like the 9.5" rims.

At full lock the 9.5" wheel hit the inside of the a-arms, you can notch the arm where the hit, not turn to full lock or make with a bolt a stop so they don't hit.

I've had those same size tires on my Typhoon for a year or so with no problems. Like Dave said, I wanted something smaller than a 275 on the front, and the ZR-1's I bought had two brand new 285 series GS-D3's on the backs. The 285's look a little funny on 9.5 wheels (bigger than the wheel) but not too bad.

That's cool. I'll like them to stick out a little. I'm thinking about lowering the back a tad. Between the larger wheels and the tires sticking out a tad, it should look really good with the cladding.
I wish I could've used the tires that came on these. Knife punctures keep them from holding air all that well:tdown:

I just bought those same rims and when I put them on the truck the front axle sits out about a 1/2 inch from the center of the rim. What do I need to do? I need to get new tires also, so hopefully there is a good option.

Here are the best photos I have to show how much the rear tires stick out. My front wheels are 9.5's also.

Sean - you need to cut off about 1/2" of the front axles. There are several posts on here about it. If you have a sawzall that's the easiest, but it only took me about 10 minutes with a hacksaw.

Yep. Common. Won't affect balance or anything. Just cut 1/2" off with a bi-metal blade and WD 40 to keep everything cooled off.

Hey! Where are you guys getting those "GMC" center caps?

I got the 'GMC' stickers from someone on the board that made them. I can't find his email anymore, but I know several other people here have said they could make them.

Thankyou for the input. I will cut the 1/2" off. Getting closer to driving this thing.

Also interested in some GMC stickers for the center caps. My current center caps are not smooth since the corvette emblem fits the lowered area so I'll also need smooth center caps. I was going to call AFS for smooth center caps. I also cut 1/2" off my axle stubs but I used a cut off wheel (air powered). Sawzall was taking forever even with the Torch blade.

Re: What tire sizes for corvette rims?

I just talked with a local speed shop that can do the GMC wheel cap stickers. I can get 4 stickers any color for $10 shipped to anyone who's interested. I'll do a set for mine first and take some pics. The will be similar to the pics above.

Found some plain silver center caps too:

Hopefully they will fit AFS wheels. They are 3" wide for a 2.5" center hole.

I bought a set of ZR1 saw blades (17 X 9.5 & 11) before the Homecoming in MI. I plan to go the same route as Wade Segrest (93 TY 2185) and design/CNC a set for mine. May produce these for sale if there is enough interest.

The only problem that I could foresee would be different dimensions among the various manufacturers of the rims which could cause fitament issues...
