What is everyone datalogging with these days?

I am digging my Typhoon (1992 #2478) back out of the mothballs after 10+ years, and adding a TT 2-program chip and 80 lb injectors (and eventually a bigger turbo which I already bought but don't have the specs in front of me). What is everyone using these days to datalog? I still have the laptop and ALDL cable I used back in 1999 with Datamaster, but the laptop is a bit too outdated to use these days (doesn't even have a USB port).

I posted on a Facebook group last year and it was suggested that I use TunerPro RT along with an ALDL cable. Is this still the best way to go? The ALDL cable I have was bought in a group purchase back in 1999 or 2000, and was a bit cumbersome (DB9 connector with separate cig lighter plug for power), but the laptop I planned to use does have an RS232 port. I was reading in another forum about using the FTDI TTL-232R-5V USB-to-RS232 cable and tying to an ALDL plug, I ordered one and may try that route. Any suggestions on cables as well?

Thanks,
Michael Pliska

The new scanmaster should have those capabilities. With bluetooth, you can even install a tablet and get rid of the laptop for good. There is also this other thing called DroidALDL app. You buy the ALDL bluetooth from a Red River, for example. I use this last one because I have several 80's model vehicles.

Nothing beats Datamaster in my opinion. In fact, since DM was discontinued I decided to ditch all the OBDI stuff and go with Holley Dominator. Support is dying out there and yeah this stuff is cheap but I figured with Holley, at least the support will be there.

I emailed TTS and they don't support DM at all any more. I forgot that I knew Steve Cole (TTS owner) from diesel racing. LOL, still didn't do me any good though as he doesn't support it any more.

I have DM and TunerProRT.... DM used to be my favorite, but TunerProRT gives you access to so much more information, and you can tailor it to your needs, and how the info. makes the most sense to the user. Just my two inflationary-plagued cents :)

Thanks! I just ordered the Moates cable you mentioned. I still have an RS232-based cable from Datamaster, but I would like to use this on newer laptops. We were having a discussion on the same subject in a SyTy Facebook group, one of the guys had previously figured out a hack to get Datamaster to work, he is going to see if he can find and post it. I asked TTS about just selling us some access code support but he wasn't interested.
