I have seen quite a few Ty's with rust above the rear glass. My Ty is clean and I would like to know where the moisture comes from so I can try to prevent this from happening.

actually winter has zero to do with rust. California has winter. Zero rust
Leave the headliner alone.Seal the colander.My Ty basically lives in the garage and I was told it has never been driven in the Winter when I bought it in NC.
Yes, it has the roof rack option. I am going to pull the headliner and see what I can do from the inside. Given the roof rack option would it be better to remove each fastener and add sealant from the exterior or can I access the fasteners from the inside.

the truck I bought off of Gary last year is an original non-roof rack truck, it still had rust above that back window and its the ONLY place there is rust on the truck. The floor pans and wheel wheels are MINT, not to mention its an original Florida truck and Florida has no winter.
yup, I live on the ocean in NJ, I've dealt with salt air my whole life, its the reason why I ended up cutting up my El Camino last year.but Florida has salt water and salt in the air. Seen a few people from where I live buy cars from Florida and then when you crawl under them there is rust issues.
When the bare sheet metal bodies are immersion-dipped in the vat for anti corrosion treatment, the cowl is lower than the rear, so the air bubble under the roof vents to the rear. That very rear portion of the roof remains in an air pocket and doesn't get treated. The exterior gets the primer and paint treatments, but that portion of the interior roof panel never receives anything. It probably began to rust before it got to the end of the assembly line.
The heat/cool cycles, and the lack of insulation form condensation on the inside of that portion, particularly in cold climates when driven frequently. (More thermal cycles to form condensation). As Norm mentioned.
Another very common spot to find corrosion on these trucks is the bottom of the doors and tailgate. This thread hasn't mentioned that yet.
