WBO2 questions

I am planning on picking up one of the PLX wbO2 units very soon. I'd just want to ask a few questions to make sure I am understanding everything I have read correctly.

From what I read through seaching around, it appears that I can use Dig's WB code so I can log the raw data even though the AFR that is logged will wrong. The raw data is the actual signal voltage from the wbo2 unit, right?

It also appears that I shouldn't need a EGT gauge if I am running a WB. Is there any reason that I should still run an EGT gauge as well? I have an open pod on my a-pillar that will end up being an EGT gauge (if suggested) or a tranmission temp gauge. Help me choose :D

Well I received my WBO2 yesterday and just have one other question. According to the documentation, the sensor needs to be 24" downstream from the turbo. I was wondering if anyone has installed it where the stock 02 is, and if you had any issues.

Keith and Hood Can you give us a rundown of what you have as far as your wideband setups?

I havnt heard anyone on the board using X device with X varient type posterchildren. Lets hear it. What wide band? what hack? hows it wired up? hows it installed?

Thanks a ton... I'd like to vault it if we get some good info.

What is a wide band O2 sensor?? I know it has to do with the a/f ratio, but I'm hearing all these great things about them over the stock O2 sensor. Just what kind of advantage do they impart? I'm thinking they just give more data or more accurate data that aids in tuning, can someone knowledgable shed some light on it for me? Thanks.

I ran John's FJO unit for a while until I got my PLX. Installed both in the stock O2 location, dissasembled both connectors, and ran through the firewall at the p-side floorboard. Temporarily mounted the FJO unit and monitored externally. The PLX has been external monitoring thus far, but will be integrated via Dig's code later this month.

I kept both externally mounted due to the fact that I'm always using it to tune other trucks. Thus, it's always in/out of the truck. The downpipe for my Chevy II has a separate O2 bung welded in since I'll be doing some CL work with it.

I'll snap some pictures and do a mini write-up here soon (along with that Tunercat RT write-up I promised a LONG time ago).

Whew.......too much to do these days.

I have the Techedge WBO2 in 1713 mounted directly behind the stock O2 in the PTE downpipe. The Techedge V1 unit I have utilizes the NTK L1H1 which is the same sensor used in the DIY EFI kit that Dig wrote his code hack for. I believe Dig did state that his change could be calibrated for any WBO2 as long as you have a chart of Vout vs. AFR. In addition to the ECM, I have Vout going to a Techedge LED display to show real-time AFR. My plan was to tune with the WBO2 and then go open loop full time and eliminate the stock O2 - have been too side tracked to get there.

A couple of requirements in mounting the O2 - it must be in front of a catalytic converter and you don't want it in a place prone to holding moisture (such as a low spot in the exhaust or behind the muffler). For these reasons I put it behind the turbo close to the stock O2 location.

My other syclone uses the FAST WBO2 sensor which I belive is also the NTK.

I also use the Techedge WBO2. I got my WBO2 sensor from autozone for about $189. The Techedge kit was another $257 shipped. I have the Techedge unit hooked right into the ECM so i can record the AFR using the Dig hack. I put the Techedge unit under the dash and ran the cable through the firewall to the WBO2 sensor. It takes a special cable and not just some cheap wire. AlaskaTy: WBO2 is very accurate for AFR. We record the AFR with a scan tool like Datamaster. Then look in the run where the truck is lean or rich and make changes in the fueling in the program as needed.

Nice, so with wb02 do you need to continuously re-burn chips or do you guys all have new engine management systems?

romulator solves the need to continuously burn chips. then again it's something else to buy. You really need both romulator and a burner. bc once u get it dialed in with the romulator, you should put it on a chip. although you dont have to.

speaking of O2 sensors. i have a Q's not regarding to alaskaty Q's. but does anybody know where i can get the diagram of the plx green board. me and mark larson have one, its broke, dig busy, so i would like to try to fix it, or if someone know how to fix it let me know?

Didn't you guys just get that? Man, Brett, you gotta quit hanging around
Larson. He's hard on parts.

Send it back to PLX.... maybe they'll repair it?

Dig, we think we may have fried the sensor so we have another on the way. If that's a bust, we'll send it back and get another. Either that or we'll all just have a jolly 'ole train up there.

You can probably find more info with search, but here's the basic idea. The stock sensor is relatively poor. It basically just gives a high/low signal. A wideband gives you a much more accurate reading. The stock setup only allows for minimal fueling adjustment based on O2 readings, so the narrowband sensor is fine for regular use. But the wideband gives you much better data, making it easier to tune your truck. Think of the stock sensor as a dummy light, and a wideband as an Autometer gauge. The stocker is still somewhat helpful, but the wideband does a better job of giving you data.
