Hope the expertise on the board can help on this. I just replaced the heater core(thanks for the step by step instructions in the archives),and now I see more than normal condensation coming from the exhaust pipes. The two are not related I just wanted to give thanks for the heater core instructions. My truck spent a lot of time not being driven so that may have something to do with it. The engine runs great and I see no other symptoms other than water coming out of the tailpipes. I am guessing worst case there is a defective head gasket or intake manifold gasket. The truck(Sy) is low milage and never been driven hard. Is there a common problem that would cause this? And is there troubleshooting that I can do to narrow down the problem? TIA.

Is it happening constantly? or just when the truck is cold? Condensation is normal, but will stop when the truck, ie motor, manifolds, dp and exhaust is full temp. If you're still getting a lot of water after the full temp has been reached, then it may be a bigger problem.

Well if it is smoke like then mabe head gasket but if it comes out like water (normal condensation) then i doubt it is a HG. What does it look like coming out of the tailpipe? If it were a HG most of the moisture will evaporate before it leave the tailpipe looking like a smoke. After it has warmed up does it still have this problem? If a smoke what color?

There is no smoke at all. It just drips from the tailpipes and seems to do it the whole time the engine is running,although it seems to maybe do it more as the engine heats up. It is fairly consistant in that it is doing it every time I run the engine. Thinking that it might just be condensation in the exhaust system,I have started it and run it for about 20 minutes(to make sure everything is warm) 4 or 5 times with the same result.

I wouldnt be too worried about it if its just dripping out. Highly unlikely that the HG is bad. Generally it will put oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil so you could check if thats happening but i doubt it. I say your GTG :tup:

sounds like its just normal condensation.
Even if it gets warm, standing still, water is going to collect in the low spots of the exhaust. Take it out for a drive, and when you come back, it shouldn't be dripping anymore. hth

Because of just changing the heater core,I am still cycling all the air out of the system,so I can't tell yet if it is using coolant. Once I get all the air purged from the system,I think a good test would be if the coolant level in the coolant revery bottle remains at a constant level(when cold). If it drops continously then I suspect a problem.

I have the same problem with a brand new motor, Nothing to worry about if theres no coolant in your oil.
