Am I off-base here? The guys running vortecs are they running different plugs? For some reason I seem to remember BG running autolite R43TS's because of the different heads. What other brands have been run with success?

The reason I'm asking is a few of the SC S-series guys have been having problems finding plugs to run in their setups that last...of course the first thing that they did was switch to platinum which I have heard nothing but bad things in forced induction scenarios...I'm wondering if your experiences would be worth mentioning to these guys.

NGK TR5 or TR6 are what I like, I used some Autolite 103's as well. AC R42TS are what the TTA guys use, and those use the same plug as well. TR5 and TR6 have been used on those cars too.

The reason platinum doesn't work is because under very high pressures (aka cylinder pressure in a forced induction motor) the platinum develops very high resistance. Platinum is used to create smaller, harder tips that will last under the stresses of a combustion chamber. Iridium is the newest material, and it can be made even smaller, and lasts long as well, but does not have the problems associated with it under boost & with high performance apps. I like Iridium plugs for boosted apps, and I have a set of NGK iridiums in my Syclone. Runs great with 'em, had them in for like 5-6 months now. It's just that they are expensive, and it's nice to use a plug that's a buck something each, because you don't mind changing them out that often.. when a plug is $6-10 EACH... you have a tendency to NOT want to change them.

Anyways, the TR5 and TR6 are *WIDELY* used plugs. LS1 guys love them, NA, Nitrous or with boost, Mustang guys, GTP guys, etc etc. Tony had them in his Syclone, and they only seemed to get goofy after many track runs with no cruising, and they would develop a coating from the leaded race gas.

I have been running the TR5IX...and having some success with it right now. seems to be lasting the longest of any I've had yet. I have some nonprojected tip NGK's on the way and I'll post how they work out. but so far the IX'a are the way to go for me...of course I'm running a really tight gap in there and thats my reason for eating plugs. tried the regular TR5,6 and autolight 104's....all to no avail.
