Ultimate Chip question

I'm a bit of a newbie to Syclones, but I'm planning on buying one this week. Currently its running a built motor with KB street chip, but I'd like to upgrade it to 50lb injectors, walbro pump, Ultimate Chip, and alchohol injection.

So would i have to put a stock chip back in to use the ultimate, or does it matter? The owner doesn't have the original stock chip. If so, how much do stock chips go for?

thanks

You need a MEMCAL, whether it be stock or aftermarket. Most people refer to the MEMCAL as the "stock chip", although it can be reprogrammed and resold as an aftermarket chip. The MEMCAL is a 66 pin device holding the EPROM and additional circuitry needed to operate the vehicle. You're truck will have an appropriate MEMCAL even though it also has the KB chip. The MEMCAL will be attached to the KB chip in a piggyback arrangement, similar to how the Ultimate chip installs into the ECM. Clear as mud? Once you open up the ECM it will make more sense.

Yeah, what he said. The Ultimate chip doesn't include the Electronic Spark Control circuitry. You have to piggyback a SyTy MEMCAL on the Ultimate to provide the ESC. The actual PROM on the piggybacked MEMCAL isn't actually hooked to anything, so it doesn't matter if it's stock or KB or custom of even if it's there. Most people like to use a genuine stock MEMCAL though, just to make 100% sure that it's the proper ESC.
